Not a great start to today when this Morn found out I have been cloned!

All petrol stations up and down the land won’t let me have fuel..

Number plates! Is it time to change number plates?

Like maybe a Q R code ?
I don’t know but when certain people can just mimic your number plate and get free fuel etc.. it’s taking the biscuit

Someone tried to clone me once when I was dating my wife , Its ok though , She saw sense and chose the original ! lol

On a serious note have you spoke to the police and DVLA ?? I dont know but I would assume the best bet is to get it re registered with new plates on yours , Unsure though as no doubt it will be up the person being cloned to pay for. Crime does pay !

Yeh I’m going to report it tomorrow in a police station .. 101 is a long phone call .
I asked as I had 2 babies in my car
And I was low on fuel can I fill a can ?
Amd I was told - No.

I found it all very strange.

I went and did my shopping
Returned to the same petrol station and
Drive up to the chip & pin,
The member of staff who had prevented the pump from working had since gone to lunch.
I asked the checkout clerk - “can I pay with chip & pin “ and he said yes of course.
So I did.
But I found it odd that they wouldn’t let me fill a petrol can?
Like they were trying to cause me an inconvenience,

One of the guys I work with had his plates cloned - first he knew was speeding & parking tickets from around London area, was a ton of hassle.

So how do you know you have had your plate cloned ?
Three separate petrol stations said I could not use the pump. And they said that I had filled up and drive off!

Thing is they won’t produce camera footage for me.

They all say “ er I don’t know how to get the camera footage “

Once I report it apparently I will get a special code from the police to give to the petrol stations that they then put into their computers & they will allow me to fill up as normal.

Point I wanted to make is
Are number plates really an expectable system of identity of a car in 2023 ?

People just copy the number plate
And your dumped with all the hassle ?

Qr code can be cloned
So don’t know why you think that’s a better idea?

They just take photo of yours and print it.

But I get your point.
Maybe more digital like chip and pin could work some how.

The problem just must not be big enough to be a top priority.

Pot holes are likely a bigger issue

Ah right , Well I suppose you can assume that they are correct I suppose then. Its a call to the correct people realy to get the right info, We would just all be guessing on what to do. Well I would anyways.

Yeh I was thinking
QR code +
Add a unique extra identification
Method that thief’s cannot copy
That is visable using a particular camera filter perhaps ?
So police & petrol. Etc… can see the mark:
Not just simple letters and numbers
That can be knocked up in 2 min.
That’s been going on for god knows how long ?
And how much lost revenues over the years ?

It’s such a sloppy system that in 3023
It must be ripe for an update ?

Apparently we have a vin number in the window glass
And chassis numbers but this can’t be checked from a distance by camera .

The only other things is if you were making off from the petrol station the coppers could be at your house in minutes. My mate did it once by accident (Unsure how you can fill up and forget to pay but still )and they were at his house within 1/2 hr. If they have cloned your car and stolen from several local Petrol stations they would be onto you straight away. I am confused to the situation to be honest.

If the plate doesnt match the car type, year and colour in the video; the police (or anyone else) would be able to see that the plates dont match the car, and so are likely cloned. So I imagine the police checked that, and shrugged their shoulders.

I damaged my number plate about two years ago, and was able to order a replacement online, with no checks on my identity, for any registration of my choosing for £12 delivered.

Which is a lot cheaper than a tank of petrol.

You ain’t the only one ..
I ask for vid evidence and the clerks say
Sorry it would take to long ..

The web site is vosa
They want a nice payment to clear your vehical from the black list ..

Well as I’m being told at different stations I have taken petrol I ain’t paying it - just to have the cloners
Cause mishchief Again!

Really the police are actually working in your area?
How novel!

As I understood they are not interested in any crime under value £500 approx
