Its a bit like Covid really - borrow loads and loads of money to put into rich people pockets, PPE or missiles it doesn't really matter, and then when its all over put taxes up so the rest of us can pay the loans off! Its a system that works so why change it...

I got up this morning, I was out of coffee, the kettle was on the brink and then I noticed my car insurance had gone up 25%.
I then saw this delightful, and not at all offensive, thread on my favourite arcade-related geek forum* and it made me ponder - not only about which direction 'Clown World' is (and what substances are needed to enter), but also my finances.

I can't work out what would've saved me the most money, just directly bombing Russia and having World War 3, or leaving Ukraine alone to be invaded - Putin's clearly a reasonable man, he'd probably have stopped at Estonia :).

While we're at it, can I recommend these heaters? Big Energy Companies don't like them, but they can save you a fortune on your heating bills. A promising young PhD student came upon the idea of heating a massive house using only 500W of heat, but everyone refused to back him, fearing he'd come across something that would put energy companies out of business, but thanks to the unique freedoms the internet provides, they're available for only £30. Ignore the Which reviews that consider heat energy calculations and that they might burn your house down, they're clowns.

I got briefly advertised one of those amazing PHD student invented patented heaters on youtube, in a very legit looking ad. Someone had put a lot of effort into advertising this great invention nobody knows about, to ensure the world knows and is able to benefit from this greatness. I was genuinely enthralled by the ad.

The amazing offer was these are £99 but by acting immediately you can have them for only £50.

Imagine my surprise when I was minded to just have a quick check on aliexpress and not only have the bastards ripped off these hardworking and innovative student designs, and every man and his dog seems to be selling a direct ripoff of the exact same product - styling and all - but also that they are selling them for £4.

I think the thing is @griffo83x we are getting scammed for sure, but not by the people you seem to think we are.

I would (and do) take a good long hard look at who's feeding you information, by what means, and what their credentials are.

Just to take Ukraine as an example: no matter what your worldview and whether you're insular or not - it's a great investment on many levels.

I am no expert at all and can't be arsed with all the research, but I do see that the bitterly-opposed-on-everything Republican and Democrat parties in the US are broadly AGREED on sending more aid to Ukraine. If those two sets of never ever agreeing diametrically opposed crazies are agreed, then it's clear to me without requiring any more evidence it's a bloody good idea.

What I get angry about to take an example is a privileged Eton-educated over-confident moron getting to the very top of the people that rule us, having a job for a whole 38 days and for literally speaking (delivering his "fiscal statement") cost us £30bn. And we still paid him. That's the kind of lark we should be getting angry about, and that's pretty much the only one thing we can do anything about, short of rioting.

Which might be an option 🤔

Yeah it's a tough one. I believe it can be done but the person has to have an almost unbelievable level of integrity. it's also an impossible and shitty job. I wouldn't do it. This creates the situation where brazen morons get in, which is what we have now.

I feel that people in power shouldn't be rich.
It's a conflict of interests.
The problem is the pay is too poor to attract people with actual talent to be MP's or Ministers. So you get either people with money and their own agendas or people who are too fucking stupid to make it in industry.

Personally I think taxing rich people more wont help, it's easy to make new loopholes to offset any rises. Simply become a philanthropist like the usual suspects, create your own charity foundation that you own lock stock and barrel and donate to it to offset taxes. Base it offshore in a tax haven with privacy laws, job done.

Philanthropy can be used to grow wealth and avoid taxes by leveraging tax deductions on charitable donations, utilizing donor-advised funds, donating appreciated assets to avoid capital gains tax, and engaging in corporate philanthropy to reduce taxable income and improve brand image.

My local council went bankrupt last year, and now this year they need to save 250 million so they need to make substantial cuts whilst raising council tax payments.

People who enter politics may want to help the people in the beginning, but when their morals and integrity have disappeared they only end up helping themselves. The current prime minister lost his last election but still managed to become leader and get into power.

The system only benefits the people who created it.

Plead stupidity and that will exonerate, it seems 'Ignorance of the law is no excuse' doesn't apply when it comes to politics.
We have been trolled for generations, Divide and conquer 101.
