I've had a few over the years...

I sold a mint GameCube Platinum Console (Zelda) boxed with new controller. I was struggling to pack it back in the box exactly how it came originally so packed it all separately. I didn't have a big enough box so ended up sending it one day late (I have selected a 3 day send from payment received) as I sourced a bigger box. I included 3 good games for free. The buyer never thanked me for the games and was more bothered about the 1 day late delivery even with my explanation. No feedback, nothing. Ungrateful imo

Other buyers, I send out extra DVDs/Blu-rays that are relevant to their DVD/Blu-ray purchase and get no thanks or anything. No feedback. Makes me wonder why I bother...

If a seller sent me extra things for free, I say thanks. Seems a hard concept for some to have manners and say thanks.

Crazy!!! Rant over 🤦‍♂️

I've done same including extra bits sometimes and often no thanks at all, odd ones you do

Someone bought from me on bank holiday friday, was asking sunday if any update on shipping, Post Office closed Fri to Mon why expect update till at least Tues, I had stuff to do that day so posted Wed but on next day so same difference, probably get no feedback or thanks like

Your payouts are on hold until you update your account details. Please update by 27 Apr, 2024 to avoid further restrictions. Update account details

That's my latest from ebay, the bank account that i've used for 23 years

Perfectly legitimate rant. There are so many idiots and knobs out there but I think you’ve been unlucky. One year in to nearly clearing out a 30 year collection most buyers have been very civil and greatful (for free Edge mags or whatever alongside console or game purchases) to begin or add to their collections. Ignore the idiots and be happy that you’re one of the good guys. 😉😀

Its sad , I used to include free stuff , Help people out in life , Do jobs for free , And you just get shit on. I once built a PC for a really good mate , I quoted first and told him if he wanted windows I would just charge him for the licence (Windows XP , Back in the day ) Was £100 odd quid. He asked me about hooky ones and I agreed to install one but I would not be responsible if it got clocked (It was in the days where they spotted hooky ones and started to restrict use and keep hassling you). They clocked it and He rang me and I said alls we could do is reinstall but buying one was the only way to stop it. He then told me it was my fault and he wanted me to pay £100 for his licence and threatened to call trading standards and Microsoft to report me. This he tried to do as trading standards called and I sent them a copy of the invoice in the post that clearly said "Customer installing own windows O/S". I was all for kicking the living shit out of him and then he moved away. Lucky as I would have killed him given the chance.

Now I am old and wise I charge for everything I do , If you want something for free now adays go somewhere else !!

Makes you bitter doesn't it ??

Dave.

Guy I work with asked me the other day If I'd given stuff to mates and they sold it on, I said yeah I gave my mate a Commodore 64 Monitor, got the stuff cheap anyway, he was the one that first got the C64 Emulator and Arcade ones so I didn't mind.
would have been nice if he asked me if I'd like it back when he decided to get rid of his C64, cheeky sod put it on ebay

I sold a brand new oil filter removal tool a couple years ago and the buyer messaged me and said, when he used it to remove his oil filter, oil had run all down his arm and ruined his clothes and he wanted to know what I was going to do about it!

You mean you didnt send him a measure of persil so he could wash it? 1 Star for you.

Gotta be honest, it's not always easy to remember feedback.
I do try, but the majority of the time I don't do it until months later.

I mostly blame my ADHD, but equally ... yeah.

Like I say, I try ... but I mostly have literally no control over what I'm doing from one moment to the next.

That said, I try to give a lot of chat up front for big ticket (which for me is most things, as I is poor) stuff ... and I *DO* feed back ... but it's always an eventual thing.
...

Firstly it is a bit annoying when selling and packing and posting an item that becomes a bargain buy for the winner and they seem ungrateful by not giving good feedback I agree but it’s the times we are in people want something for nothing no effort and save dosh as well

Some people use eBay as a side business and feel the seller is a shop and want the same protection and some see the chance of scamming you sadly … and don’t send anything then you as buyer have to appeal for refunds very sad..

It happens due to the poor enforcement procedures which are difficult to apply.

As many of us on here probably do is sell BIG stuff ….. machines and big heavy fragile hard to wrap stuff etc…

EBay doesn’t help the situation at all everyone gets an immediate demand PAY NOW and in fairness 99% do and eBay usually now banks the funds just as the dispatch is about due… trying keep sellers happy . I give the option to pay cash on collect on all big collect only items and offer see before you pay if not happy? But the buyers get the option even on non returnable items to ask for return and refund if in their opinion it does not meet the exact description ???? Especially when they pay eBay ..
In all good trading terms I would never consider dodging eBay fees which is their aim to insure… it seems to save cash deals off the system … fair comment as it’s human nature?
You then get funds on hold to enable refunds or they just take it from your bank anyway !
In the early days it was nice to get feedback and build up to a new high colour star rating but of late I now have more sales without than I do with feedback tho I almost always feedback especially fast payers… I miss the odd item I buy because I prefer to get chance to open it and see if it works ok or hear back from people I send items as birthday gifts etc

But if I delay or miss giving any I get reminder prompts from eBay saying you need to leave feedback on an item or two?

I no longer care but enjoy good feedback that appreciates a good deal a breakdown repair saviour part or carful quick packing and dispatch as it encourages me to continue that good selling service.

I have sold to numerous members on here or J+ etc and most seem good at appreciating my service but you get idiots who buy a part on self belief they are engineers and when it doesn’t cure their sick machine they deny using it for illumination diagnostics and say it’s faulty it rattles i want a refund???? Real idiots I test all testable parts and stamp items with an auto ink id so if they return their own identical item I will know and again 99% realise this so can’t pull that exchange scam…

At the end of the day tho stuff I sell owes me little or nothing and when I look at my selling dashboard at total sales I think wow where have I used all that income??? It’s me who overall is the happy one and I hope all future sales continue to add to this if I get feedback or not - past caring now as long as it’s not negative of course !!!! 😁

Finally lots of people swear at the failings of flea bay sh-t bay but I find it ok and hate to put a value on things for buy now so prefer auction … an item is only worth what someone sensibly wants to bid .. no forcing their mind or typing finger and is the reason I don’t often sell an item in the various pre priced forum sales topics..
Auction some you win some you lose but no sale means it goes to the skips sometimes?

if people want to do a cash deal they only needs bring extra cash when they come to collect there’s a thousand small items here I virtually give away or will sell at value

Just today one of my regular repair clients said he would like an item I have listed and he is a nice guy I fix loads of things for. And give idvice free on chat if he needs it.. I said don’t buy the item and left it listed… he messaged if I wanted remove it and he would take it …

I duplicated the item and also gave him some extras sort of free (item listed is£19) but he had a £20 note and his quid change he forfeited got him a free wheeler 6 cue wall rack a new pool triangle several chalks and spare tips and best of all I found him a possible sponsor for his son who is turning pro as a snooker/pool player …. No eBay fees incurred… I have £20 he’s very happy.

You can't do a pay now on a buy it now if it is collection only.

I sold a bellfruit 1970s power supply yesterday collection in person on the listing and didn’t apply a posting fee as it was big and 6.5kgs but in the description I said can send or arrange own courier and save themselves about £9

The guy bought on Buy Now £20 and I got 19.10 after fees

I knew it could be shipped for about that and he paid within seconds of buying

EBay put up buyer paid arrange collection

I messaged him my number to arrange collect and he texted my number not on eBay reply his wish to pay £9.00 to ship it to Essex long way to travel and collect for sure
Now off the eBay restricted messaging service he asked if it was ok I gave him ff PayPal details and £9.00 arrived in a couple of minutes and address in Rayleigh please I booked it on UPS today for £8.37 not bad I got 61 p profit on that excluding a couple of meters of parcel tape on a re- used box and it went today …. My £19.10 is in the bank already and I got postage via friend and family pp

He is a fruity collector and may be on here under some name other than his eBay id.

I mentioned it to my friend who called today and he is well known in fruity fields and his eBay name is ‘amusement linked’ and my friend from Preston knows him or who he is..immediately saying his name and location without me disclosing his actual name. Just his eBay tag .

Just a bit bad is eBay shows money back guarantee protection on items and on the iPhone I can’t tick box saying mark as dispatched but on desktop computer I can mark as item ‘collected’

That could be buyer in person or a nominated agent or courier of his own choice? But I gave it to UPS next day and Thursday even economy nearly always arrives Friday with their service on regular route to major depot regions.

See below no postage just price of buy now on collect in person item sorry ! I disagree with quote used.

EDIT : Sat morning -quick positive feedback received from buyer at 3pm Friday and I had done likewise earlier GOOD RESULT IN THIS INSTANCE 😁

They will laugh at you and keep on asking.
It’s like a prison mentality to see if you’re soft. Well I was I didn’t care about chucking a treassle up!

But the guy was right — they began to laugh and talk amongst them selfs jokingly about what they where going to ask me to do next..
they did “. Oi. Just erm. Chuck them bricks up here “

Me. “ Nah mate. “
Brickes. “ what?”
Me “ Nah I’m here to earn my monies for me! Not to help you”

Another carpenter asked me
You should try asking another day to pass some wood up to us..
So I did .. a week later ..
Me. “Erm excuses me You couldn’t just passs them bits of wood there up could you?”

Brickies “. F***+***********off

You can't do a pay now on a buy it now if it is collection only.

Ebay have added a setting where making offers (might also apply to BIN, haven't checked), you need to have a funding source added to pay for the purchase, even for collection only items. You will see this if you make an offer on something, it will authorise and pay the amount (if the seller accepts the offer), regardless of whether it is for collection only.

I only found this out last year when I listed an item for collection only (too large to post) and someone bought it and next thing I knew ebay told me that they had paid. When I discussed it with the buyer, they said that they were forced to make immediate payment.

The option is under buyer management / buyer payment requirements. On my a/c it says "Require buyers to provide a payment method before they make an offer". Not sure if this is a default for everyone but for the offers I've made recently, all of them required a funding source setup.

Ah, that seems different to mine. I was trying to set it up so that it did require the buyer to pay immediately rather than on collection to avoid time wasters but it wouldn't let me! 😆

I've had a few people buy things from me and then send a message after they already paid and say they changed their mind or bought wrong one time this clown says he doesn't want it now so don't post it, however it was already booked for collection the next day before he sends the message so I thought what do I do now, send it and he could break it to return it

good thing was it was before you had to pay for the return too, so I thought no sod him and was doing some plaster boarding at the time, so I boxed up some old broken plasterboard and put a label on and made it look like it was from amazon, he then opened a case not as described saying he got a box of rubble, I replied and said I'm not sure what he's talking about but if he's not happy with the item and returns it I'll happily refund him so he had to return it to get his refund

Parcelforce guy was laughing when I told him what he was delivering back to me :sneaky:
