i suspect this company has no diagnostic skill and just pointlessly replaces the line output transformer and changes the caps on everything they get.
i'v seen that a lot - not many real engineers are left unfortunatly.
partly their own fault - look at the employment postings from company's like sega (STS) and they look like clowns.
stuff like "bench engineer needed - may have to repair stuff" or words to that effect.
i hope it wasnt E-Service that we are talking about.

As said most stuff is repairable , I think the issue is most companies have what we used to call ' BER ' Beyond Economical Repair. This basically means that the cost of repairing out weights the value of the item or that the parts are no longer available. They say unrepairable and they mean BER (Or the customer mis interprets !). EXAMPLE :- I had this when I did PC Repairs ' My mate fixed it with some second hand parts ' , Yes but new parts were £200 and the laptop was worth £100 ! " I did not say it was not repairable just that its not worth it "

I Agree with Mc-Q not enough Engineers around now , I used to repair JCM Note Accepters and we did this to board level. Stripped them down to nothing cleaned, 99% were liquid damaged !!! You wont believe what I found inside some of these ! lol.

Dave.
