Or maybe those people are fed up of being told what is proper and what to do. I'd be embarrassed if I was one of the 60 % that threw their vote in the bin (no idea if that pun works 😆) for not voting. Dude would 've walked it 💪

A councilor mate once told me - if you hate the candidates, at least turn up and spoil the paper - that way they have a record that you can be arsed to get off your backside to vote and you're someone they need to try harder to impress next year. Arguably the same applies to voting for a man dressed as a bin - far better than staying at home on polling day.
