Posted over on AO, however there's much less member cross over than you might think, so I figured people here might enjoy a butchers too...

Had a few custom 'shock box' sleeves printed up for the mainline Metal Slug games that came after the MVS.

I've tried to stick strictly to the mainline games, and my lifetime goal (It used to have a much sorter timeline!!) is to 1cc all of them.

The custom sleeves are a fun thing to have as until the idea is picked elsewhere, they're unique.

All MVS carts came loose, aside from MS4 which I have as a kit.
I've got the arcade art set for MS6 too, but couldn't be arsed to dig it out to post, unless anyone is super interested to see it?

The foam is a little untidy, and [smention u=6936]Monstermug[/smention] has pointed me towards shadow foam for "that pro look", but I'm not sure that I'll actually open these cases enough times ever for that to be a worthwhile investment? I still might do it, not sure...

Fun thing about my copy of MS2...

The game is original

However, the OG ROM has been removed, and the PCB socketed

DrV1tX7.png

I use it with the original ROM, however I also have a ROM with the mighty [smention u=9207]trap15[/smention] 's 'Turbo' hack, so the hack can be played too but still on authentic hardware.

As the series is such a big deal to me, I've dedicated my six slot to it, and use the candy for everything else...

I did also recently purchase the AES style sleeves to try rather than the uniform grey sleeves I have for the rest of my MVS games, and I'm still not sure but I think I like them

Also picked up some of the better games that are clearly heavily inspired by Metal Slug

Dolphin Blue is fun, but not as good as people like to make out, Kraut Buster on the other hand is better than people like to give it credit for (I assume because of ill feeling towards NG Dev??).
The PCB is Demon Front, and the only reason I have the PCB rather than the cart is that it's cheaper! I may look to pick up the cart instead at some point.

The only things I think I'm really missing are the precursors... In The Hunt, Gunforce, Gunforce II (Geostorm).
Pricey to pick up all three, especially Geostorm, so I'm hoping to get hold of one of the forthcoming M92 multi's from the mighty [smention u=7616]darksoft[/smention] and pals.

Failing that, they'll have to go on the 'one day' list.

Am I missing anything else obvious relating to the mainline series??

No idea what I was thinking with the DS box?! I've adjusted the foam so it sits in the middle of the case now. Much less jarring! (picture has been edited now)
Very nice Chris!!

Maybe get Metal Slug XX on PSP as that was the original release
Oooof! I knew someone was going to say that :ROFLMAO:

I might well have to, but I'd literally never play it, plus I'd have to try to source a NOS PSP (second hand handhelds are generally gross!)

Maybe...

Controversially, I think 2 is my favourite, followed by 1.

Only big downer on 2 (and X) is the RNG on the final boss. I can do everything on those games consistently except that boss. It’s infuriating!

5 doesn’t get enough credit.

I know most people would choose 3, and I’ve deliberately played very little of it.
I’m trying to 1cc X before I move on to 3, and I’m trying to ‘save’ the experience until I get round to playing properly.

That's an awesome collection! I had 3 on AES back in the day, and i've got X on MVS now - I love them both.

I never played any of the later games though, i'd be interested how they stack up to 1,2,3 and X.
I think honestly the first four are objectively the best. But despite not having played a huge amount, I like 5, and likewise with 6. I've played XX a little more than 5 and 6, and it's not as good, so I assume 7 isn't all that good.

All said without really investing a huge amount of time into anything beyond the first three, so please take with a pinch of salt!

My collection is mixed to be fair. German Metal Slug XX PSP, Australian Metal Slug 7 DS, various NTSC U/C & J console releases.

The only consistency is all my MVS are English releases (label). Turbo is the green cart.

Pics from a few years ago, no new additions

Metal Slug 5 XBox JP I got before I had the MVS cart, the same with Metal Slug 6 for PS2 JP before I had the Atomiswave cart, so a bit of nostalgia.

Still enjoy the Saturn port of Metal Slug

That's a fantastic collection!! Plenty bigger than mine!

I especially enjoy the green MS2 cart. The only green cart I have is Garou, but I think it's my favourite MVS cart colour. Congrats!

Is that MS book still sealed?? Get it open and have a butchers! It's a fantastic book.

To be fair, all my bitmap books are still sealed. Sorting all my other $hit so not sat down and enjoyed them yet, but will come to them soon 🤦‍♂️

I'd never seen a green Metal Slug 2 cart before so had to get it. All original. I bought a Turbo cart (black) from a member on here and just changed the PCBs into the green cart. Easily distinguishable with the original MS2

As we're sharing, I just have the basic MVS quadrilogy from Nazca / SNK-proper, and I'm shit at them.

Nothing unique about four boxes on a shelf but I like the case spines to look interesting and when ordering my softboxes I tweaked some of the covers available online. That MS2 one took ages. The hunt for a cleaner source of the spine art (used on the JPN AES box) took hours. Then more hours removing manual text from it. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Gunforce was never huge money, rather pedestrian game to be honest, I traded mine many years ago.
Gunforce 2 on the other hand, you can definitely see the change in direction.

I had 2nd Mission on the NG Pocket. Ok, but nowhere near as much fun as the main games. That one went up in value quite a bit o_O

Just got MS1 on MVS now. I appreciate the sequels I've played, but I always felt the first one was near-perfectly formed.
