Great collection. Pocket metal slug is good , slightly different animal but still metal slug. I had the Wii compilation years ago and played the heck out of it.

Lucky enough to get a darksoft Aes cart years ago and theres always a metal slug game in one of the slots.

So the selection of available covers isn’t massive, and they’re all ‘Japanese’ style full cover artworks, rather than having the option for the uniform grey spines as I’ve opted for for the majority of my carts, but I got all of the above including the unique custom sleeves from Physical Media on Etsy.

I don’t want to make promises on his behalf that he’ll definitely knock up whatever sleeves you want, but I can say that he was extremely friendly and keen to work on the above.

In a perfect world I’d actually like to replace all of my grey spines with full cover art versions instead, but he doesn’t have 2/3 of the games I’d want.

What a lovely collection and such an inspiring idea! I love the uniformity of your collection, not to mention your cab.

I have all the MVS Slugs and have been meaning to get an Atomiswave and MS6... but they don't seem to come up often.

I ended up spending hours to edit/make some covers so that I could do this. I replaced and touched up some artwork with higher res and in particular I spent forever rebuilding the MS2 spine. They're not perfect, but they did the job well enough.

I've been meaning to dig the image files back out since you asked over at AO but haven't got round to it, and it's one of those things I'm not excited about sharing as it's specific to my collection, and I got bored of spending so long over it.

Controversially, I think 2 is my favourite, followed by 1.

Only big downer on 2 (and X) is the RnG on the final boss. I can do everything on those games consistently except that boss. It’s infuriating!

5 doesn’t get enough credit.

I know most people would choose 3, and I’ve deliberately played very little of it.
I’m trying to 1cc X before I move on to 3, and I’m trying to ‘save’ the experience until I get round to playing properly.
For me it has to be MS3 for MISSION 2.

You get to rescue Bill Clinton and get thundercloud.. OP blood vomit zombie superpower, and meet the yetis and ride the mammoth.

You reckon that’s Clinton? Good shout. I thought it was a generic ‘president’, but I’m down with it being Clinton. Shame the cloud he gives you isn’t much use. Likewise the monkey, sadly.

The elephant is ok, but the detour is pretty pointless. Would have been cooler if it was a branching path that lead to the boss…
(Would also have been cooler if it were a mammoth!!)

I’m finally playing MS3 now. It’s a good game, but it’s so much slower than the prior games, and while it’s extremely cool to look at, it’s more style than substance.

I’ve put far more time into the others, so perhaps I’ll enjoy it more once I’m more used to it.

Yeah pretty sure that's meant to be clinton- the voice is a piss take on him too.

I think the elephant detour is to max out the prisoners and get "You're Great" comment at end, similar to if you finish mission one with the slug and a huge list of prisoners.

Diaper monkey is a bit shit, but he's doing his best.

Ah, that makes sense!!

See, this is just the sort of thing I hope I’ll get once I’m more familiar with the game.

It is cool, but just feels heavier going

On mission 1 you can farm lots of little extra point drops.. you can time blowing up the boats to catch most (maybe all) of the little crabs that scatter when you blow up things.. the big flying bugs can be killed from the correct side to make them drop apples.. shooting the pirhana late from the boat results in them dropping extra ammo for your weapon.. etc etc.. I think you maximize prisoners by going first UP (instead of down to submarine).. then DOWN (split in bridges to ship).. you get loads of prisoners hanging in trees plus finish with the Metal Slug tank.

You can farm grenades on the zombie level to have near-infinite blood vomit "grenades". If you wait long enough the little medicine "Cure" pouches disappear.

MS3 seems to be a lot about knowing when to wait/move slowly. I think the space-invaders style level has a lot of RNG/impossible-to-skill through bits

It's always been my favorite for the humor in the artwork

I spent quite a bit of time redoing the cover and spine for MS1+2 with the cleanest source art that I could dig up. I got a couple of collectors to send me pics. I didn't bother with the backs and I'm a bit embarrassed to share as they're only finished 'enough' to please myself from the shelf, and I had over 30 inlays to send to print. I went over about a dozen games like this where I was a bit unhappy with the inlays available. After many hours of twiddling I ended up having to stop.

I'm not a fan of grey spines.

While I'm at it here are the others I put varying amounts of effort into. A few were just tweaks and a few such as League Bowling were basically from scratch as they didn't really have anything around that matched the box art. Or they were horrible quality like Waku Waku 7 and World Heroes 2 (I redrew the filmstrip and placed fresh character graphics ), or some had art that was horribly cropped like with Money Puzzle Exchanger and Viewpoint.

Might take a while to load.

Nearly all the back covers should be credited to various copyists. My apologies for not hunting those out. It's actually quite hard to find the correct person when the filename often credits someone who has edited someone else's insert, like I have.

Love it!
There’s something intangibly cool about the Garou case…

I think I’m going to go full colour eventually. The bloke on Etsy doesn’t have art for half of the games I own though. He’s always adding to them though, and I’m in no rush. Plus, they’ll be hidden away in a cupboard anyway!

Doh.

Yeah they look great.

I'd rather have all Japanese style spines but it was much easier at the time to match to existing US style than vice versa.

do I ‘need’ the AES+ 35th Anniversary console with the white Metal Slug??

Probably not, right??

There’s the impending MS8/MS reboot, which some speculate will be an AES+ exclusive, but firstly the teaser video shows the ‘reboot’ text on a multi slot arcade cab, which would be weird if it were to be an AES+ exclusive, and secondly for profitability surely it has to be multi format, right?

If they’re already making PCBs that work with OG Neo Geo hardware, it’s not a massive stretch that there will also be an MVS version, right??
