Just wondered if many still have proper old Separates they listen to music on or like my brother Alexa and Echo subs or what ever there called or these Sonos are they? I have no idea on anything modern

I had early 2000s Technics Dolby Pro-Logic amp which was last new one I bought and 3 head tape deck, CD Player but when I used to pick up 2nd hand stuff all the time I got old Technics 315 system with SU-7 Amp which is like the full size Power Amps with the big Analogue meters but Midi system which started me off wanting older Technics again

So I sold all the later 2000s stuff and kept this, I used to have a Technics SU-V9 when I was about 18 which had Super Bass and this had also but just switch instead of dial, when I picked up some Celestion Ditton 442 I was pretty impressed with the amp and speakers, the super bass really is good on decent speakers and even without it on loud its way better than any modern amp with loudness and standard tone controls, I bought another SU-V9 but then went for the top early 80's Technics with the SU-A6mk2 pre amp which has Super Bass and Treble and SE-A5mk2 with big analogue meters so you can really enjoy the music fully, sold the Ditton 442 and went for the top model 662 which are superb for bass and managed to bag some cheap Technics Monitor 2s which were only made to order i found out, you can certainly appreciate all the old rave, techno, drum & bass etc with this

Some are always buying new Hi-Fi gear but I more than happy with what i've got and have no reason to change it. I have newer 7.2 amp for watching movies but even that has all early 80s Technics Honeycomb speakers apart from the subs

So what are you using for your music these days?

It sounds so good through Dynaudio speakers it’s almost unbelievable. Somehow the turntable and amp combine to make something so magical that I’ve honestly never heard better.

I’ve had £3k Rotel amps and they don’t match up to this Technics beast.

My unhealthy vinyl obsession over last 20 years has led me to me having many versions mk2,3,5, but 5g is just a beautiful turntable and my favourite.

Ugh... I had a MK5G stolen out of the back of my car outside my house once. I couldn't be arsed to drag them back in after a night out DJing and an opportunist broke into my car and nicked one of them. Totally my fault for being a pleb.

Nice topic - like many here I guess we grew up with this stuff so it's not really retro - just what we love. ;)

I got into HiFi and music in the early to mid 80's and back then the budget amp to have was the NAD 3020 of course.

No chance of having one BITD but we used to have an awesome old school shop nearby with a matching old school engineer who used to refurb/recap all the classic gear and I picked up one then with a lovely matching tuner which still sounds amazing on FM. I love the Planar 2 and a pair of Castles top it off.

In the garage this week I also had my trusty Sharp GF8686 with my original 80's tapes still going strong 40 years later:

I remember when used to buy shit loads of TDK tapes in bulk . I think maybe from CPC or from a friend at Dixons , and would sell them to friends individually. Oh happy days.

good to see proper systems still :)
Yoy can properly kill yourself with it too. Who thought it would be great to build live chassis with metal switches :). You dont need to throw this in your bath water, just pull the knob of the front and touch the metal shaft.

I have a second hand Naim HDX music server coupled to a second hand Simaudio Moon i5.3 with Monitor Audio Silver RX6 speakers, sold my Rega RP1 turntable, Rega Brio amp and Marantz CD6004 CD player. My system sounds really good, I have heard vintage and they sound really good as well.

Technics was one of my favourite makes along with Panasonic, when I found they made some Technics Ghetto Blasters I had to get some and bagged this setup off ebay, I did try and sell it only due to space but didn't sell and pleased about that

Searched the internet for info on the Subwoofer and hardly anything comes up, I wasn't sure if it was specially made for the SA-C05L or not, seemed like it was considering it sits on top perfectly and model being SB-W05 but got hold of early 80's brochure which has both unit's in and sure enough it was made for the Portable, just powers from the output of the C05 unit which is about 30W per channel din I think, then out the Sub to the speakers, Think it's 15" Sub

The portable does work on batteries also but you never see them with the battery box that fits in where you remove the transformer unit, I got a Boxed silver one with boxed speakers, still not batterybox but recently I got a Black one boxed in near new condition with Battery Box still sealed

It's not bad, they were early like 1980 I think which looks more modern than it's time, I would of been over the moon to have had something like this when I was young, with or without the sub, the stereo sounds good for it's day, pretty much all ghetto blasters are let down by the speakers, unit is good quality sound and powerful for battery one, sub probably more impressive looks wise but does add some bass, not listened to it for a while, pretty cool though

Think it's 12/13" Super Woofer, I had some technics speakers with the same type
