I remember the 60hz patches on ps1 games. What i remember most is some of the terrible racism on the Paradox cracktros. I didn't see stuff that bad on the ST loaders but on the PS1 stuff it got really bad on some.
Yeah, I rem that, you loaded the game an opened the Console right after the PS logo appeared and replaced the Disc with the 60hz version. I think the CD music struggled to Cue correctly thoughAnd by disc swapping, I mean putting in a PAL CD, then swapping in a NTSC game to bypass region protection.
Pretty sure we did that with Resident Evil and it played in 60hz.
I had a mate who was copying PS1 games, he could not copy them fast enough to meet demand. His most popular customers were Coppers as well, ironically! He had to stop in the end, he was getting too well known on his estateI remember the 60hz patches on ps1 games. What i remember most is some of the terrible racism on the Paradox cracktros. Yeah but the 60hz version is the way the programmer intended you to play it. I do get your point though, and yes, I am a retro snobi personally find the whole 60hz thing to be one of the most snobbish things about retro collecting, so i have consoles that run like that, yes, do i think the games are better...not in the slightest
i wouldnt go out of my way to get a 60hz mega drive to play Sonic on, for me it sounds stupid because the music is playing too fast compared to what i played when i was a kid, same with Mario World
I am on about pre-1992 though. A Sony 29* would have been several thousand back then! All the tv’s I tried had no issues with 60 Hz, Sony, Hitachi, Panasonic were all good.
I had a Sony 29 inch stereo Trintron, great pic and sound.
The cheap ones were no good Grundig, springs to mind.

My Mom rented a TV and Video recorder from Visionhire and later Granada until I bought them myself. All the tv’s I tried had no issues with 60 Hz, Sony, Hitachi, Panasonic were all good.

No it wasn’t, mine was about £600 brand new, I don’t recall seeing any TV’s for several thousand, and my US SNES was £100 without a game.I am on about pre-1992 though. A Sony 29* would have been several thousand back then!
You had to block the lid mech switch, then listen for a noise the CD made then quickly swap the discs.Yeah, I rem that, you loaded the game an opened the Console right after the PS logo appeared and replaced the Disc with the 60hz version. I think the CD music struggled to Cue correctly though
i think what you meant to say was "Sonic is diabolical" and you added some extra stuff on the endSonic is diabolical running in 50hz
Not loaded but I had an ok job as a self employed electrician, it paid for all my hobbies, video games, skateboarding and music. My Mom rented a TV and Video recorder from Visionhire and later Granada until I bought them myself.
Sounds like you were loaded having a 29' Sony!
Our rental TV displayed NTSC scart in B/W.
When trying to record gameplay on the video from an NTSC console, the picture rolled and was also in B/W.
So many hurdles to jump though just to play at 60hz back then, but playing Contra Alien Wars in RGB with the music blasting through the stereo was immense. Phono outputs from a TV was a revelation back then!![]()
Think I tried it with an US NTSC PS1 with a PAL copy of WipEout. Tekken 2 was awesome in 60hz!You had to block the lid mech switch, then listen for a noise the CD made then quickly swap the discs.
Never encountered any issues with music, and we rinsed Tekken 2 till the early hours most weekends.
i would also hedge a bet that a lot of people who played these 60hz consoles on CRTs were probably being limited to 50hz, but thought they were fantastic and bragged about how much faster and smoother the games ran
thanks for being condescending, so please explain to me how a 60hz console plays on a TV that can only play at 50hzA 60Hz machine won’t play at 50 Hz, you seem a bit confused. It wont slow down because it’s a PAL TV.
It won’t play, you will just get wavy lines.thanks for being condescending, so please explain to me how a 60hz console plays on a TV that can only play at 50hz
so how come all of my Japanese consoles play on my 50hz Trinitron? It won’t play, you will just get wavy lines.
Sony = Japanese quality set.so how come all of my Japanese consoles play on my 50hz Trinitron?
