Hey,

I just recently bought a Game Gear and it eats through batteries so fast. Its a great handheld, I vaguely remember my Dad having one when I was a kid and he rarely let me use it (I was a bit accident prone). I seem to recall the Disney games like Castle of Illusion and Donald Duck which were good fun to play. There are so many games that you can buy for between £2-£10. Anyone got any recommendations?

Anyway, I am looking into getting a Power Supply for it, just wondering if anyone can confirm what voltage etc I would need and if a PSU from a Sega Console might work on it?

Thanks

This has some info on various Sega PSUs:

It’s unfortunately out of stock (and there are likely alternatives), but an everdrive would take care of all your games:

That website is great, thanks. I get so confused with the different PSU and the adapter ends that I am never too sure which one to use. I have a few spare Mega Drive PSUs so I will check them out.

I like the idea of an everdrive but that one is a bit out of my budget (costs more than my boxed Game Gear lol).

Thanks again!

Yeah those Krikzz ever drives are never cheap. You might find a decent clone on AliExpress. Sure someone more knowledgeable than me can give advice

I managed to pick up a 3rd party power supply from eBay for £8 and an ever drive from AliExpress for £12.

The ever drive is a bit hit and miss (sometimes you have to put the cartridge in a few times) but for the price you cant go wrong, it even has Master System games too.

I am building up the confidence to open it up and check the capacitors and look at changing the screen!

You can do a Lithium battery/USBC power board mod, couple that with a modern replacement screen and the batteries last for ages. The original backlight is a real power hog.

l have had these since the olden days ... and if you can find something that outputs either, then you're probably winning:

Actually ... have someone confirm that for me ... because I just don't 'get' V, A, Ah, etc ... I would assume that they're both OK, but ... since they have different outputs, now I don't know. :(

Barrel is (i think) 5mm diameter, 10mm length, and 2mm inside ... I think ... I'm a bit tired.
