Sega Rally 29" CRT display conversion - albeit temporary..

Hi everyone,
I’m currently having some issues with my CRTs in the garage—unfortunately, the cold weather seems to be taking a toll. While the boards are holding up, the screens themselves keep failing. So for now, I’ve decided to put the CRTs into storage and temporarily replace the 29" CRT in my Sega Rally 1995 cab with an LCD. I plan to swap the CRTs back in once things are more stable. I’ve searched the forum but couldn’t find a solid recommendation for the best 4:3 LCD option that would give me the closest possible match in size and feel. If anyone has advice on the best route to take, I’d really appreciate it! Thanks in advance.

there are companies that make lcd kits for these but you will not find 4:3 lcd of that size
of course the logical action is get the chassis repaired and put a heater in the garage, although cold weather? where are you in the southern hemisphere somewhere?

Thanks for the reply, it's more of case of condensation in the garage - I must have gone through 5-6 chassis over the past 1-2 years and without a screen of course, it's hard to repair the other things that I need to do. I'm in the UK - we can't really run heating 24/7 !!

Rally is 29”
The 29 is coming apparently, and I linked him to it previously.

35” is interesting- ridge racer Dx!
I wonder if they will fit in a SEGA fighting cab.
3D games scaled to this resolution, especially model 2-3 look next level.

Have you not had them repaired & serviced?
If you keep getting used old ones perhaps they are all about to die

Thanks for the options. Has anyone tried using a standard bigger the. 19” widescreen LCD that can also display 4:3? I saw a Sega Rally twin at Westward Ho, the borders were there but they managed to hide them - it’s was unclear if they were covering the speakers which is not ideal

rally uses medium resolution(ega) so you would need a converter like a gbs 8200 and the lcd would need a vga input, most lcd are hdmi only now
i have seen 32" lcd used in rally sitdowns to replace the 29" crt
pretty sure andygeezer at AGS did some kits for these

Maybe easier and cheaper to address the Garage issue with solarventi, no damp issue in my building since fitting one

The picture would be the size of a postage stamp though.
However if its temporary, I'd rather go the route of an old TV (and the aforementioned converter) than put hundreds of pounds of monitor into a garage to die. Good job the game PCB hasn't croaked it.

I don't know if this Arcooda one is the same but the 26" Unico 4:3 lcd actually measures 25.7" apparently which is 65.2cm, so only about 3cm diagonally smaller than the 68cm crt that'd be used in a Sega Rally cab. It certainly would be close enough to work ok anyway i'd say.

At least with Sega Rally you can emulate it pretty much perfectly with the Model 2 emulator and the link works fine as well far as I know!
