Electrocoin Xenon and Goliath: power questions

Hi all

I have four Electrocoin Xenon cabs in various failed power states:

One is absolutely fine.
One the JAMMA connector is fine and the speakers are fine (you can hear it) but no power to the marquee light or monitor.
One there is no sound but the JAMMA connector, marquee light and monitor are fine.
One is DOA - nada (I replaced the plug fuse but the power cable is hard wired).

I've not started diags yet but the obvious initial approach is to take the PSU from the fully working cab and try it in the others to see what works, but idk how much I'll prove doing that. Are the PSUs modular? And if so does anyone have a schematic for what powers what please?

For the speakers issue do they have their own power line? I was thinking of ripping them out and just sticking USB speakers in there (I'm replacing all the boards for MAME PCs) but I'd like to get the originals operational if I can.

Thanks in advance you guys!

Hi
Do they all have the same monitors ? All of my Xenon run Hantarex 9110 but have seen xenon’s with Polos also. I would check the 2 monitors in this working set up to rule out monitor faults.
I have a combination of Hantarex psu 200/250 (schematics available online) and also Electrocoin psu modules with step down and switching supply.
Perhaps it is worth checking the coin door switches are functioning correctly on problem cabinet 2 , I have had this fault before where the power is not reaching monitor or marquee.

The stock Hantarex power supplies are a bit naff, mine went bang after about 4 years from new, replacement is still going strong - good quality is always worth it.

Thanks @Flyback2021. They're all running Hantarex MTC 9000s, although on two there's no power to them like I said. So it's possible the PSUs are different but I got them from the same place at the same time (holiday park closing down) so I'd expect them to be the same. However from the sounds of things there are different PSUs used in these cabs if you're saying yours are different across your cabs. I'll get them out and take a look then report back.

Presumably then some PSUs are modular and some are not - and I'll need to replace like for like per cab if they do in fact turn out to be different...

Perhaps it is easiest to post some pictures of what you have ?
I have my Hantarex PSU serviced and they all run well. This is other power supply type which I have in another xenon.

Hi all

Apologies for prolonged delay - between work and Christmas it soon catches up.

OK so I have an update on this thread.

All three Xenons have a Hantarex US250 PSU. I took it out of the cab with everything working (not listed) and tried it in each of the other three:

One the JAMMA connector is fine and the speakers are fine (you can hear it) but no power to the marquee light or monitor. -- exactly the same with the replacement PSU. I also took a working fluorescent tube from another marquee and that also works fine. Therefore suspect a dead screen, I'll raise a separate thread on that
One there is no sound but the JAMMA connector, marquee light and monitor are fine. -- not tried this but can only assume the speaker is dead. I'll raise a separate thread on that
One is DOA - nada (I replaced the plug fuse but the power cable is hard wired). -- this was due to the back panel not being on and the safety switch not being engaged! Once I sorted that there was life - but another dead screen.

So many thanks for all your help on this one! @Flyback2021 I do have another question for you please...

@Flyback2021 my Electrocoin Goliath cab was my first cab I converted about 15 years ago and has been running fine since, but at a recent get-together I had it powered on and working fine but when I checked it later it was completely dead (the PC I put in it was running but no life in the screen, marquee light or speaker). It appears to be identical to this one you posted a photo of - see attached. From the looks of things - please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm no expert - but it looks like the fuse wire in the two 3A fuses has blown - I can't see a fuse wire in either, but I can in the 2A fuse. From your photo it looks like the two 3A fuses are the main live and neutral fuses for the entire cab.

So my questions to you please?
1. Am I right in this assumption? Are you seeing the same thing or am I missing something else, or is there somewhere else I should be looking?
2. On the basis it's the fuses, where do I get replacements from please?
3. If the fuses blew is it indicative of something more sinister within the cab I need to look at/for or is it just the same as when a plug fuse goes or your consumer unit trips? Like I said I'm no expert.

Thank you!

Hi
Yes, looks like the fuse has blown and probably indicative of a fault in psu or in the monitor . How is the pc wired in to the power ?
Glass fuses readily available from RS, screwfix and Toolstation.

Thanks @Flyback2021 for your speedy response.

Ok I'll chip down to Screwfix :)

The PC doesn't go through the PSU at all, separate kettle lead routed out the back and into a wall socket, hence it was unaffected.

From your photo it looks like the 2A fuse routes through to the screen, I'm hoping the fact that that didn't also blow is indicative of the screen being ok...

I'll post back once I've switched those fuses out.

Thanks again!

@Flyback2021 On a related - I don't see similar fuses in the US250 PSUs the Xenons have. Is there any equivalent here please? The hope of course is I can just replace a fuse and get the screens operational (the fan doesn't even come up) but may not be as simple as that.

I normally send my US 250 off to be professionally looked over and serviced .

Aaah ok. In retrospect I don't think that'll help anyway as that known good PSU got no response from those screens - and it's unlikely to be the wiring looms I don't suppose. I'll get them looked at. Thanks again.
That’s the great thing about being able to swap parts into a known working set up . I think the monitor chassis will need to be looked over and will resolve the issues.
