That's right 125 years Nintendo have been around and it's the anniversary this September 23rd 2014
Of course video games weren't around in 1889 but Nintendo have along history of making cards, toys and board games.
It wasn't until the early 70s that Nintendo pioneered arcade games along with sega, Taito and namco.
In 1973 Nintendo leisure system co ltd was created and this is the era of arcade games from Nintendo I am most interested in as half my machines have this company name on
It wasn't until 1980 that Nintendo America co was born.
But it hasn't always been good for Nintendo, people worry about the future of the company now when wiiu sales are very low,Nintendo in 1973 with the oil crisis was crippled in dept ( estimated at ¥5 Bn)
They carried on with there laser clay projector games in the arcade and it was in 1975 the birth of the EVR technology that really turned the company around .
Nintendo worked side by side with sega and namco
The first game from namco was bomb bee and changed to bomb bee N for Nintendo .
Most of the games released under Nintendo leisure co ltd were exported to Europe and distributed under sega .
There is so much history from this great company
And as a collector it's Nightmare because they made so many desirable toys video games & collectible things
But I guess my favourite thing they have ever created is

Donkey kong Jr I just love this game so much
The best video game by far

So what's your favourite thing, toy, game from this great company ?Chuckie egg2014-07-29 15:55:57

It has to be Super Mario World for the Super Nintendo. Absolutely amazing game. Still looks fantastic today and plays perfectly.

Also a very close second would be Super Mario Kart on Super Nintendo - just love it!

Fantastic company

125 years! What an incredible company they are, so many industry changing ideas, the whole face of gaming would be very different if they hadn't been about....trying to name one thing is no easy task.

I guess my happiest Nintendo memory is the day I collected my Snes. I'd owned a N.E.S. for many, many years and the hype behind the new Nintendo console was unreal, I remember reading all the reviews and looking at all the screenshots in amazement, it was such a leap forward from its 8-bit predecessor.

The US console was a really ugly bit of kit, and when I saw we were to get the Japan version (for once!) I knew I wanted it on the day of release here so saved up all my pennies which meant missing my weekend trips to the arcade for a while (giz 10p mate) but I knew it would be worth it.

When the day finally arrived my Mum was almost as excited as me so drove me in to town as soon as the shops opened and I've never been so happy to hand over a hard-earned wedge of cash. I literally clutched the box in my arms the whole way home, then went straight in and hooked it up to the family TV which I'd been allowed to commandeer for the entire day.

Going from the old 8-bit console through the RF socket to this shiny new 16-bit box of RGB Scart awesomeness was such a leap forward, I had my one cart which was Mario World, and that was all I needed. I literally played it non-stop until the night, then slept for a few hours before getting up super early the next morning so I could get a few more hours to myself before anyone else got up. I think the fact I remember all this detail from the time says just how important that moment was in my life.

probably the game + watch games. they were portable and didn't need a tv to play and the batteries would last ages. the 1st game + watch game i bought with my own money was donkey kong jr. before then, i only played on my friends' and neighbours' machines.

favoruite console of all time is the super famicom. i was a late adopter of the sfc actually because i stayed with my pc-e for as long as possible, then eventually i imported a sfc from HKG (before i got a md). i didn't have the money to buy games so i borrowed ranma 1/2 from a friend. soon after i got a game doctor and every week there would be loads of new games to try out. publishers back then were a lot more adventurous, so we saw loads of different genres of games, some really wacky stuff, lots of innovation.

when i started in the game biz in 93, i worked on many super nintendo games. even though i was only a tester at the time with a foot in the door, i'm pretty chuffed that i got my name in some nintendo of america games. those were the days!

My first Nintendo console was an N64, I was a Mega Drive owner before that so Nintendo didn't have as much influence on me growing up. I remember playing the original Legend of Zelda and years later Mario Kart at a friends house, but the memory that sticks with me the most was playing Ocarina of Time. What a great game.

Donkey Kong Junior for me Alex....my fave by a long shot and to be honest if a video arcade machine doesn't have the words Donkey or Kong in it's title.....I really have no interest anymore.

Love this guy!

I bunked as much time off university as I could to play Super Mario 64. I got all 120 stars! I watch people playing it on Twitch to this day.

It would be cool to hear a history of Nintendo's arcade output on the podcast. You could maybe cover a couple of games each time in 'episodes'?

I have so many fond memories of my NES as a child the game that stands out is Super Mario Bros. 3, I actually remember getting it for Christmas one year, I don't think it was the first year it came out I may have been 6/7 and thinking I had ever seen a game look so good I didn't know really what graphics were ect but wow going from Mario Bros to Mario 3 was night and day.

But the one game series I piled the most hours into is Pokémon... people don't think it's that great once you're over a certain age but I grew up with it and X and Y I've put in over 300 hours...

I will be over in Japan at the end of September/October I hope I can pick up some cool anniversary merch.

LONG LIVE NINTENDO!

The Super Famicom is by far the best system Nintendo have ever produced and although I loved my Megadrive, when my friend bought the Japanese console on the day of release I knew it was time to work out how to upgrade.

He had both the Nintendo launch titles and they were amazing... Super Mario World and F-Zero still to this day are simply revolutionary games... and when Pilotwings was released, you knew this system was staying around for a long time.
