Amazing stuff, it sounds so clean! very NES like... and yet it doesn't take anything away from the original.

Now you mention it, I haven't played the NES version. Just watched a clip on youtube and it seems they copied over the arcade music...and it sounds even worse! On the other hand, I've played 1943 on the NES and was pretty impressed, including good rendition of the arcade music.

Thinking about this a bit more, I think what I'd really like is for the main music to continue even when you lose a life. ie only stop when you lose all lives or finish a level.

Not sure if this is doable since the 'play sound 0' thing is used to kill all sounds when you die. Not sure if removing this would cause problems.

I am so looking forward to a release of this, you will likely need to patch the game code to get the tune to continue when losing a lufe as that'll be a trigger point to kill sound then play the other tune. Also a way to keep the music playing from the last position would be good but start from beginning when starting a new game - it would be worth programming the full score then.

Just suggesting.

Don't forget to use rev b roms for any patches as discussed on the other thread.

Just tested out v3. Truly amazing work buddy! Thank you so much for this, makes the game 10x better. Now I know who to come to when I need a tune knocking up for my next game.

If I can get the music to continue when you lose a life then I might try squeezing a bit more in. That's a bit of a learning side project which I haven't spent much time on yet so not sure if it will happen...

WOW

Awesome...love the work you guys have all done here.
633 Squadron (great Ron Goodwin soundtrack btw), also a great choice.

I will try this out on with 1942 asap.

Really great to see that even with all the old crazy stuff, we find ways to make fun improvements, etc.

All the best,
DaveO.

I hate to say it Mr. Holley but I think you may be in the minority here. The general consensus of opinion seems to be that the new music is sh*t loads better than the original crap.

You're all mental. Leave 1942 alone! That music sounds great once or twice but every time you play? Naah. #biasedasfook

I admire your ability to withstand the original tune (?) long enough to get such good scores
