Martin paid me a visit today and dropped off this fine specimen. It's a pretty rare version and one I wasn't even aware existed until I saw some pics last year.
This particular cab was found in an ops storage by some well-known members and was bought as is, untested and complete with dirt. So of course I couldn't say no
There's not a great deal of info about these around so I thought I'd do a proper examination of the cab for future reference. This is an Ireland build cab, and has completely original internals.
I gave it a good clean on the outside and it came up really nicely. The amazing thing is the interior in the photos is exactly as it came to me, and is like new inside, the door sheet and manual were both inside as well, and even more staggering is that after testing the voltages I powered it up and it's working 100%!!! The monitor is a little shaky so will no doubt need caps doing, and the sticks need rebuilding to improve the diagonals but it's a great result.
On with the pics. Here's the original flyer for it.
And here's the cab after a good clean.
The marquee doesn't light up. There's no wiring for it so it obviously never did.
Control Panel. This is very different to the 4p version in artwork and layout.
Coin door decals.
This cab has no side art. The sides are a dark grey rather than the usual black or woodgrain I've seen on other Atari cabs I've owned. I'm not sure this cab ever had the side art fitted, it may have been an optional extra. I'm going to fit some though once I've vectored it.
Back of the cab with Serial stickers.
Original back door sheet with 2p version details.
Supplementary manual for the 2p version.
Internals. I've only owned 1 or 2 cabs that were this clean inside, this must have been pulled off site after a short time in service and stored ever since.
Pcb. This is running Gauntlet II 2p Rev.2.
I still can't believe it's fully working after being stored all those years. I tested all voltages for the pcb and monitor before connecting everything up and it was all perfect, amazing!
