Adding Light Guns to Arcade Cab

Asking for a friend who wants me to source him a multi cab but is insistent on having the gun games.

I tried to talk him out of it!

He's not going to be able to deal with a CRT and I can't be dealing with him crying any time its playing up (needs adjusting) or the risk of him electrocuting himself!

SO I'm thinking a standard jamma cab with an LCD fitted with a Pi in it and recoiling Sinden guns. He wants to play Time Crisis/Point Blank etc.

Anyone done this with decent results?

I'd personally go with Gun4IR if you have the time and money, in my experience these are worlds apart from what Sinden can do. If cost or time is an issue, then Sinden is your next best bet for sure.

Yeah G4IR here too, it has an overall better experience and far less fannying around to set up, depending on emu you have to start getting into reshade to add the border, also self built comes in cheaper.

I would go PC over Pi too.

To be fair I have a mame cab that i love with an LCD & have 2 guns as I love mad dog. My only advise is if he wanting them sort of shooting games then get one with a larger screen. (Mine is 19" 4:3 ish) Only thing then is that the normal games look stretched out and guff. I always wanted to make another cab just for the big gun games myself.

They do come up on Ebay now and then , Mame all in one jobby.

This is the type of cab / screen size i wanted but to play all games :-

You could probably fairly easily make one of them DIY as it doesnt look like a complicated design, also you could install a large LCD and then mask it off to 4:3 so the games arent stretched.

What is Gun4IR like in terms of distance to screen size, Ive got an Aimtrak and years ago tried setting up a PC with Mad Dog, Space Pirates, etc. outputting over S-Video to a Toshiba 4:3 rear projection and you did have to stand a loooong way away from the screen for it to register over the whole screen.

ive got a Sinden along with 58” LCD and a pc. Pc definitely the way to go, mine plays all the TP games.
You need a border with Sinden but it’s easy to set up and there’s actually a build out right now for Sinden all setup and ready to go. All you have to do is download then extract to root of D: drive. All the borders are already setup on each game.

I finally setup Sinden guns and they were working pretty good on LCD 16:10, got one for me nephew and it wasn't working great on his TV so not sure if it's its his TV or what

More to do with his lighting I’d say. I think with Sinden, people see the software and get a little confused with it all, but it’s not hard you need to spend a little time with it. There’s also some good YouTube vids on the subject.
ive got mine running in my man cave with very little light coming through. Theres only the light from the doorway coming in and my Sinden gun is very accurate

Looks great , what guns ?? I have the ultimarc ones thats needs the LED strip. Not tried it on a bigger screen as people say I would need a bigger LED strip.

No you don’t, hence the white border on the screen. You can change the colour if you’re using Reshade but I leave it to white. When you’re concentrating on the game You don’t notice the border anyway.
