AES+ - what games are you getting?

Maybe a long shot but I'm hoping they can make a deal with the likes of NGDev and Bitmap Bureau.

NGDev said they aim to produce carts for availability to AES+ buyers but honestly I'd be much much more interested if they pursued a production partnership with Plaion. £69 licenced new games please. I really don't care if it's flash memory on a small PCB instead of crazy rom banks.
Totally agree and mentioned this in the main AES + topic. It's criminal that NG Dev have ignored the endless requests for years from potential buyers wanting to buy Kraut Busters for one. Crazy that they make all the effort to build a game and just do one very limited run. I'd need MVS though TBH.

So much of that in the retro hobby. Great thing about Plaion is they're serious about availability of previous releases. None of this FOMO grab and out.

Thinking about partnerships I'd be fine with £100ish per 'new game' cart if necessary to get newer devs on board. The old SNK games are very cheap on Steam so it's fair enough that NGDev would want more than a tenner per sale.

Bitmap Bureau sell through other avenues and offer rom only for £10 so maybe they'd get the ball rolling. Might be a better way to finally get Final Vendetta on a cart.

Amongst the many collecting communities I have been part of for decades, the Neo geo is by far the most toxic. Someone going to the trouble of creating and releasing a game in extremely low quantities kind of sums the community up for me - it’s all about one-upmanship and looking down on those who don’t have a 100% original collection in mint condition. Games like xeno crisis would probably sell loads if released for the aes+ but I can’t see it happening because then all the nasty proles would be able to get their hands on something that is only meant for ‘true collectors’.
I’m not holding my breath for anything other than original releases.

Too true - and I'm certainly not holding my breath for a MVS + rather than a AES +. Just never got into AES - owned one briefly and I have a mint copy of NAM '75 on AES just for nostalgia (the supposed 'felt tip on the naughty bits' for Saudi Arabia or whatever) but I truly love the MVS and more so for the fact it's the pukka, bona fide, real deal, been there done it, arcade abused OG system.

It's such a blooming genius set up. People doing YT NG videos love to always say 'WOAH! Look at the size of that cart compared to a SNES or MD cart, nuts man...!!". But to me it's the reverse - you're getting an actual complete 10p gobbling arcade game in compared to what went before [ie huge PCBs/multi boards] effectively the PC Engine Hu card size format of the arcade.

I do think the initial line up is pretty well thought out though - would like to see Prehistoric Isle 2 and Money Puzzle Exchanger on the second run. Must haves.

I hope Money Puzzle Exchanger got lots of shouts when Plaion apparently asked for Wave 2 opinions on Twitter. I'd buy a console plus MPE for my eldest, he loves it.

It did reek of bundled-game that would otherwise be forgotten about. Not awful, just very 6/10 (to me anyway)

Anyway, at least no-one's asked for Riding Hero on the AES+
(about as hideous as Chase HQ on x68000).

Yeah, that’s my only beef with the NG, Drift Out is awesome but they must surely have been able to do at least an ‘as good as Mega Drive’ Super Hang on clone rather than all the top down/isometric stuff? Riding Hero was NES level or worse. I know the NG was a 2D machine but it had pretty amazing spite scaling built in. Maybe more of the issue was the fact all MVS arcade games had to be joystick controlled??

I think being able to do 'road' games well needs specific hardware capabilities and some systems were quite bad at it (do look at Chase HQ on x68000!).

I don't know if it's related, but I'm not sure any games do line-scrolling - the effect you see on the floor of Street Fighter 2 and what Imagine could be good for animating a road.

Yeah, NeoGeo was already pushing its limit for most of its life before trying to compete with some huge arcade racers running on technical powerhouses.

Neo Drifting way off course now but this racer chat reminds me.

I never understood the love for Road Rash. Thought it was godawful since the moment I first saw it in Dixons.
