AfterBurner celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, so it seemed fitting to produce an ‘Enhanced Edition’ to offer the definite experience to fans of the original.

AfterBurner 2: Enhanced Edition (AEE) is a set of 3 replacement EPROMs intended for use on the original arcade hardware. It is a plug and play solution and no hardware modifications are required.

This is free to owners of the original arcade cabinet. If you would like a copy, reply/send me a selfie of you and your AfterBurner machine! I'm going to make some sort of silly instagram album if there's enough responses not to make it completely embarrassing, so prepare for that.

Great work Chris. Sadly, I don't have an AfterBurner, but I'm looking forward to getting the Outrun enhanced roms installed!

Superficially, that cab Rob was selling looked in great condition to me. What do you need to do to it? Have you tested the boardsets yet?

Not as much as I'm looking forward to seeing your Deluxe! The last time I played one, I was probably 9 or 10 years old - and another kid decided to climb all over the machine whilst I was trying to play.

Must get myself another afterburner, this looks amazing work you've done. That afterburner of yours could be my old one actually, - looks incredible now its been restored if so.

HI Chris, The cab is in great condition, had some mould on the inside which I've cleaned up.
but the main issues I've had so far is the power board/s came with 3 one of which is from another game, the switchers have been an issue too. so far I think I have a working power board. Getting 128v and 100v from the transformer. and the 12v power supply lights up. but not getting any power/lights to the coin mech or other lights, the fan is not spinning in the top of the cab.

I'm getting 5v from the switcher and wired up the PCB hoping I may hear some sound but not getting anything. and the Monitor blew the 2a fuse, so I was looking to remove the chassis and heard air being sucked into the Neck while trying to remove the neck board so I dont have a monitor for it yet.

All the fun of arcade restoring though.

so at the moment I'm not sure if the PCB's work
I'm going to try hooking up pvm to the cab to see if I get anything visually from the PCB's

This one came from Terry. I've done a reasonable amount to it since it arrived last year, but there's still plenty of things to do! If anyone has a spare AfterBurner wiring harness knocking around then let me know. :-D

Good luck with the restoration. If you find yourself in South London in the future, bring the PCBs and we'll try them out!

I'm impressed how integrated it looks with the original code, and doesn't look at all like it's been added-on some 30 years later
