Okay, this is a strange question and I'll probably not get an answer as there most likely isn't one.
My old red arcade buttons have gone an awesome crimson red colour. No doubt over time they have been subjected to smokers, greasy grubby fingers and in their final years...the elements. The areas submerged under the cp are still bright red. So here's the question, are there any methods or ways to stain up buttons to make them go crimson? I can only assume time and grime can do this but I thought I'd ask.

Would Retrobrite work?

I completely missed this comment. Yes indeed, I like the crimson colour. Initially I thought it was the original colour until I removed them from the cp.

Any crazy ideas to lose the red newness are welcome

Strip them down and put them in a bucket of boiling hot water with a concentrate of bio washing power and leave overnight. That may work.

I did this with a black trakball with the intention of cleaning it, but it stripped the top layer of gloss off it, and it came out looking a hundred years old. Completely ruined and not the look I was after!aeroflott2014-06-13 12:39:31

I think that may fade them, I want them to be a darker red.

I've been informed to apply and leave boot polish on them. Allegedly when wiped off, the colour will deepen...will have a go
