RIP to the arcade shmup legend
images

I raise a glass to the craziness, the stoned drunkeness, and that ever-present cheeky glint in his eye as he attempted to piece together the latest deal or master plan.
I'll miss the rollercoaster ride of his latest antics, and the conversations I could barely make out - "AhyooahcaaandycaaabkindaguuuuyOoookeyyy!"
I'm glad that there are loads of pictures of him at events, usually with a pint in hand! 🍺

I'm sure many of us have tales of his times in the hobby. We should probably collate them here really.

So sad to hear. His name always cropped up here and I send my condolences to his family. I for one will be smoking a big joint in his honour!!

Sad news. A real character and passionate about the arcade gaming scene. Known him on numerous forums over the years, but only actually spoke to him once. It was memorable of course - was only meant to be a quick confirmation about a sale, but ended up chatting about all sorts for ages.

Will be missed - thoughts go to those closest to him.

Yeah sad days I always remember him coming to pick a Sega rally upright up in an ford escort van, I said ‘it’s never going in there’ and he took the front seat out of the van by un bolting it and said ‘yes it will’ his mate who was with him had to get in the back with the cab lol all the way to Scotland.

Amazing story that 🤣

I never had the pleasure but might be a nice gesture to compile some of these memories and send them the families way when the time is right @Alpha1, he's evidently left a legacy of memories for people here 👍

Met John a few times at the NERG events up here in the north east. Always had a good bit chat and laugh with him.
My most memorable moment of John was watching him still manage to smash the expert course of Star Wars POD Racer after he'd clearly had way to much to drink.
A real character for sure, will be missed.
RIP John Bud

I recall giving him a lift from the Norbreck Castle (Play Expo) into (Blackpool) town about ten years ago. He was totally wasted. Despite being Scottish myself, I never understood a single slurred word he said all the journey, and I just nodded and agreed with whatever he was saying all the way and he was pretty much asleep when we got there :)

Very sad news. I laughed at many of his forum posts over the years. I seem to remember a sales post titled something along the lines of "Buy my shite!" He clearly had a great sense of humour.

Ha ha! It was a post on J+ titled ‘Box of Gladys’.

There were no pictures and a general description along the lines of maybe some old Naomi stuff, old buttons and shite!

Every trade I had with him was successful but it would usual involve a delay for increasingly bizarre reasons. I think the last one was an Aliens PCB which took him a month to find a box to post it in!

From Pinballinfo, this made me smile. It’s EXACTLY what he would have wanted:

Pleased to say that John got a good turnout at his cremation today in Glasgow - a lot from the Scottish pinball community where there plus mark , Daz ( replicas ) and poibug from England and wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬and from the arcade world / his songs were shine on you crazy diamond and then pinbsll wizard and he was given a wee “doobie” on top of his coffin to help him on his way . Very apt . RIP Mr Bud ♥️
