So I am working on the resto of a Firefox, but its a bit of a Frankenstein, as I have delved into researching what I need to do it turns out there are two versions a US and an Irish one. It was missing the harness so I had one made which matches US wiring with a single power supply, I have the version with two AR boards (Irish version), I have found a manual that I think shows the two AR wiring but it is pretty much unreadable so I cant even start hacking the harness to suit. So one option I think is to track down an Atari power supply (I have put the feelers out with a couple of members) or if I can find a decent schematic showing the wiring connections for the two AR version I can see what the differences are etc.

if anyone has a manual that they could photograph, an Atari power supply A037671-16 L or photos of the inside would be appreciated.

I have not even started looking at the laser disc player (not confident it will work) and the Dexter is not being made anymore (he said he will open source but who knows when or if that will happen).
Maybe this will be a resto to far!

are you trying to keep the thing original?
if not then i would fit a big 20A switching psu and a seperate audio amp (maybe the AR2 as an amp)
what monitor do you have and what voltage(s) does the laser player take?
btw - if your monitor is the original one atari used then i hope your religious - because it will take divine intervention to stop the shit line output transformer splitting and arcing

Hi, I am happy to get it running as close to original but happy to change power supplies etc, I have switchers in half of my games, the player is 110v and I have just powered it up, it spun the disk so it has some life in it at least. I will look at the schems again and see what voltages it needs etc and if can’t get an original power brick will look to modify.

well what player model is it?
and the monitor too
looking to switch/adapt as much as possible to 240v to reduce the need for huge transformers
that includes little things like the marquee ballast. :)

I have a power brick just not the right one, I can keep 110v and just use external transformer, I have Tron and missile command running like that, saves changing everything out. The player is a Philips, need to go back outside and get the model number but I am sure it is compatible as I got boards, player and discs as a bundle from a member on here.

I feel this will be a bit of a journey to get running.

I also managed to get the dexter before it stopped getting sold.
Depending how I get on, I may be will to sell the dexter

Only just realised that since getting that, my 6 month old son is called dexter

The monitor is a Mashushita TM-202G so dodged a bullet on that one a bit, I hear these can be a royal PIA as well, looks in good condition. I have most of the loom plugged in other than the power brick as I have a lead on an original one.

Powered the Laser player up, the disc spin and I can see a laser on, trying to see if i can get a connection somehow to a PC monitor, I have a BNC to VGA adaptor but I think it is a bit more than that as I do not get anything from it, also I read it will just play the whole disc but the laser does not move.

Isn't the player designed to work with an exterior controller, so I don't think it would do anything without being sent commands telling it what to do.

that's not always an issue depending where cracks are, V it out and fill with Fibreglass resin, working on one I had cracked and arching :)

some players use a serial port, but most still have the button pcb behind the plastic.
the fact that yours spun up and turned the laser on tells you something - maybe it autoplay's for test purposes if there is no comms

the problem is, once it has been arcing the insulation on the windings is questionable
maybe you can rtv a cracked focus/screen pot assembly but iv never seen a longterm fix doing it with the main body :(

Been sitting on mine for maybe a year while I clear other projects, wish I moved on it earlier and would not have missed out on a Dexter! Anyone know if the Dave Spicer emulation board (found a thread on here from 10 years ago) is available at all?
