R/C cars? I used to have a grasshopper offroad buggy that I tuned up to hornet spec. Was tempted by a 4wd machine recently but decided I have enough pointless hobbies already

I had a couple, and I can't remember ANY of their names :( A 2WD racer, a 4WD racer and a 4x4 monster truck thing. Think I still have the 2WD one somewhere in the Tamiya box - probably at my parents.

I love old Tamiyas, but they tend not to race too well today though. Plastics age and become brittle. I've had Boomerangs, Monster Beetles and a Midnight Pumpkin. My favourite was a hopped up Fox. I was racing it quite recently but the amount of running repairs and breakages saw it consigned to the loft in the end.

More modern cars are the order of the day for actual fun!

Looks like I'm not the only one then! I've had loads and loads in my time collecting from the very first ever produced (934 RSR) to re release frogs and hornets. Don't have so many now has I've had to thin down on my collection but I've still got a few lol sand scorchers, rough riders, superchamps to name but a few.

Gridrunner I've raced scorchers, rough riders, avante and loads of other old school against other vintage stuff and granted now with today's stuff it's like a mini against a Ferrari.

I always wanted a Midnight Pumpkin but never got one... ended up with a really beat Grasshopper later on... then sold it all..

Then i got a Hobao Super Pirate 1/6th scale nitro car which was awesome fun... then sold it all..

Now i am car-less and prefer to look back on them wistfully and say 'been there, done that'.

I had a second hand Sand Scorcher back in the mid-eighties. Never had the Beetle body on it though - had the Ranger XLT body when I got it and managed to customize the Super Champ body to fit over the radio box. Also straightened the rear wheel camber to make it sit lower and be more steady in the corners. Loved it and still have it. I think the SC body looks the business.

Also got back into a bit of retro R/C in the last few years first getting a Blackfoot Xtreme to bash and customising it with Blackfoot style livery. Then got a couple of classic re-releases, namely the Subaru Brat and Lunch Box - still hoping for a Wild One re-re as I always wanted one as a kid. Hehe gotta love the builds on these old Tamiyas, takes you right back to being 12 all over again
