Any vape users here?

So, as a long-time smoker of rollups, I want to give vaping a go, in order to cut down on smoking. All the different vape types and specifications is mind boggling! I just want something simple that's going to give me the closest experience of smoking rollies. I gather I should get an MTL vape, then?

Any recommendations for a particular vape/liquid much appreciated, as I'm about to give up on the idea and go and have a cuppa and a fag.

Been vaping for well over 10 years now after smoking almost 20 cigarettes a day for many years. I've gone through various bits of hardware and juices, but currently happily settled with one of these:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Caliburn-System-750mAh-Nicotine-Carbon/dp/B09M81HXNM

It's not expensive, is small and discreet, and is a good mouth to lung unit delivering plenty of flavour, so you can give it a go and see how it works out for you without breaking the bank.

As for juices, I've always used this stuff:

http://www.ecigarettedirect.co.uk/e-liquid/10ml-vape-juice/halo-uk-made-e-liquid

Take your pick of flavour. If you're a rollup man, I'd suggest trying this one:

http://https://www.ecigarettedirect.co.uk/classic-virginia-halo-uk-e-liquid

But buy a few flavours and choose what gives you the best result (I use American Red which is a good approximation of Marlboro ciggies). I'm quite happy with 0.6% strength, but if you're starting out, you may want to start with 1.2% and see how you go.

You'll need some replacement coils. They last me 2-3 weeks before requiring a change. For MTL, I'd recommend 1.2 ohms:

Good luck. I've not looked back and feel much better for it.

edit: Jump on YouTube and look for Caliburn G2 reviews to get an idea of how the unit works and the results it gives.

Great info, Tony. Thanks a lot.

Do you know what the difference is between the liquid you linked to, and the nicotine salt version of it? Is the nicotine salt version compatible with the Caliburn G2?

I've been in a similar spot, making the switch from rollies to vaping. It can be hard initially, but you've got the right idea with an MTL (mouth-to-lung) device. MTL vapes mimic the draw of a cigarette, giving you that familiar tight pull. I'd recommend starting with a pod system like the Uwell Caliburn or the Voopoo Vinci. They're straightforward and low-maintenance, and the nicotine salts you can use with them provide a smooth hit that closely resembles smoking. As for e-liquid, try a tobacco-flavored nic salt at 20mg to start. It'll give you the nicotine hit you're used to without the harshness. If you're looking for a durable option, you might want to check out the NEXA Pro 30000. It has a strong battery life you'll likely find vaping a solid alternative to roll-ups.

Yeah, I've been using the Caliburn ones since posting. They're ideal for my usage and have helped me a lot to cut down on the rollies.

I loved a smoke , Roll ups like you mainly as normal smoking started getting expensive. Gone are the days when you could have a smoke and not be judged by everyone around you !!

Anyway , 5 1/2 years ago I started to feel unwell and decided to pack them in or go vaping. Problem was I didnt want to jump from one bad habit to another so I decided to pack it in all together, I also knew that as long as I was vaping I would also swap and have a smoke here and there. So i packed it in all together and I have never looked back to be fair !! Its hard but doable.

Does not answer your question but hopefully something to think about , I suppose in your case its just to cut down on smoking so a little different than me. Although was not causing my health issues.

Good Luck !

Dave.

I've been vaping since 2012. Plenty of cheap decent devices out there these days, but vaping can be a rabbit hole once you start looking at higher end devices.

These are my current daily drivers.

If you do start vaping it's important to make sure you have a decent strength liquid. The government in its usual fashion has bollocked this up a by limiting strength to 20mg of nicotine. When I started you could get 36mg or 24mg. Strength is important as you need it to be fairly high at first otherwise you'll still be craving a cigarette. I found I'd still want a cigarette at first but over time I'd actually began to prefer vaping to smoking.

Can't recommend a liquid as I mainly mix my own, which is basically just menthol crystals and nicotine as I like the hit it gives and can control the nicotine level. There are a lot of steeped tobacco juices (or at least there used to be) but I never found the flavour to be a good cigarette/cigar replacement.

I'm still on 20mg nic salts, but I never really had the intention of cutting down or giving up smoking completely.

I find the baccy flavoured ones are ok to begin with, but then kind of stop tasting like tobacco after a while. Not sure why.

I also like Vampire Vape's Heisenberg flavour. Hint of menthol and really nice puff when I feel like a change.

El Toro was the premium steeped tobacco liquid brand when I last bothered to look, but that was years ago.

As I said, I found after a while that I just preferred vaping to smoking. I kept having a morning cig and smoking when drinking for a couple of years but eventually stopped entirely. My mindset was any time spent vaping was time not spent smoking so no issues if I didn't stop smoking completely

I use a PAX2, but I appreciate that this is something for dry herbs or tobacco, rather than your endgame, here.
Still, it's *excellent* and doesn't cost the earth ... plus I hear that the 3 does liquid, too. So one can chop and change.
Pretty sure that I've stuffed pipe tobacco in it and it was a reasonably pleasant experience, but it *did* gunk it up.

I don't believe you can use eliquid with the pax, but heated tobacco is a good alternative though if the health evidence for vaping is lacking it's definitely more so for this type of device. It will allow you to heat other herbal products though if that's your thing.

Yeah ... the PAX 3 allows it ... at least 'concentrate' ... if that is the same thing ... I dunno ... but it has been superceded by the PAX PLUS now anyhow. (same spec)

MTL vapes are probably your best bet if you're trying to get that rollie-like feel. They give you a tighter drag, kinda like smoking. I’ve been using a Uwell Caliburn, and it's super easy to use, nothing too complicated, and works great with nicotine salts. Nic salts are nice because they give a smoother hit, closer to what you’re used to with cigs.
For liquids, I’d stick to tobacco flavors with nic salts at first. Feels more like smoking, you know? Also, if you're up for something different, I’ve heard good things about delta 10 edibles. People say it adds a nice chill vibe without the smoke.
