It seems to be a bog standard board, there is some patch work but I think that's just because it's an early Rev3. I tell you what, I'll plug another A500 board into it later today and let you know if it boots up with a known vanilla board. Thanks for posting this. It is good to see what is supposed to happen on boot.
Does your A500 board have any visible modifications, such as jumer wires or missing ROM chip ?.
I ask because I have a backplane board and cartridge boards that I plugged into a stock A500 board. Mine just boots to the usual kickstart screen. I've always wondered if there is anything I need to do to get it to boot from the expansion board ROM.
It's a regular KS, 1.2 in this case. Here's some info from Toni (WinUAE dev) via h0ffmanI think it’s a custom kickstart Rom, not sure - think I saw that when studying the Mame files
Right on closer inspection that won't work. The Arcadia Amiga is an NTSC model. Some A500's have an Agnus that can be switched to NTSC with a little mod so perhaps if you try that on yours it will boot, I'd be interested to know.It seems to be a bog standard board, there is some patch work but I think that's just because it's an early Rev3. I'll check that out thanks! We did find our board was oddly "soft", like part of a regular PCB manufacturing process had been skipped and there wasn't a tough top layer on it. This resulted in 3 traces being easily damaged in transit, so if yours is the same it's worth checking over for any dings. Thanks very much for that. I'll have to dig it out again. My notes say that the board I used was rev 6A , so much newer. I do also have the single game Leaderboard, so could try that too.
I have a feeling mine is faulty, otherwise why would someone have removed it from all the framework. If memory serves, I poked around a bit and found too many floating signals, coupled with all the PALs, made me give up.
Have you seen the version of Nemesis someone created for the Amiga recently ?. Datastorm would be great in a cabinet too.
This is the Arcadia stuff that I was talking about , i sent u some rom boards for the side of an a500.I'll check that out thanks! A bit more info for you as I've been working on it more. I found that if you replace the Rev3 NTSC Amiga 500 with a Rev5 PAL A500 it works absolutely fine, I can't see any speed or display differences it just works. If I had Kickstart 1.3 in it would just boot to the Kickstart screen but as soon as I put KS 1.2 in the Arcadia booted normally, so that seems to be key. Also make sure you have the additional 12v going into the Arcadia expansion board.I'd be interested in seeing this running.
I've had a backplane and game boards for a long time. When I tried pairing it with an A500 board, I couldn't get it to boot. I'm still not sure if it is faulty or if I just didn't have it wired up properly.
I do remember the machines being advertised in Ace magazine back in the day. Great late 80's magazine !. It covered all home computers, and they reviewed arcade games too.
