Hi Invaders
My good friend 'Jumpman' asked me to repair his 'Area 51' pcb which has a problem with gun targetting. It's a common fault with this board, but I thought I'd document my fix for posterity.
The problem is a bad surface mounted 74LS14, located on the board at position 23E.
First of all, clean the repair area with alcohol (it's quite a dusty board), very carefully cut the legs off the surface mount IC with an exacto-knife, and remove the main chip body.
Next, remove the legs, remove the excess solder from the pads and clean the area with alcohol.
Next, position a replacement 74LS14 onto the work area, hold it down with a small blob of blue-tack and solder down one leg.
Remove the blue-tack and solder down all the legs - Repair completed.
