Area 51 HDD backup

[uk-vac] Area 51 HDD backup
Hiya,

I picked up an Area 51 yesterday, and since it's getting a bit long in the
teeth I'm wondering if anyone knows how I can make a backup of the HDD
before it eventually dies. I've Googled for an answer but come up blank,
except for a few people suggesting the use of a commercial HDD copier (not
an option, I don't know anyone with one) or using the "dd" command in linux
(I read one or two newsgroup postings from people saying they thought it
would work, but none saying it actually does).

Any advice gratefully received.

Is there not a MAME CHD you could download, and then worry about what to
do with the CHD if & when the drive actually dies?

From what I found it appears not, because the Area 51 HD doesn't have a standard format. But the website pobster pointed me to looks absolutely spot-on. I'm just sourcing the parts right now :)

Well, the 6 that I can see are: (from left to right)

The one with its back to us is anybodys guess....
