Atari Ireland didn't make any Lunar Landers - they are all US built but will have a 220/240 export label.

The white sided (inside) ones were the later run - there's an article online somewhere. They are pretty rare.

Thanks for the info!

Lunar lander how cool is that?

Didn't someone in here recently get the control stick and a few other gubbins for that?

Yes. Some HOARDing get did indeed recently acquire such gubbins.

Owl eye coin door. White reveals. Rare LL to Asteroids conversion kit. Very nice find.

Great pickup guys!!!

Like the pics showing the LL-> Asty conversion kit...not seen that before!

It's great to hear these stories of cabs still tucked away here and there. :)

Okay I can shed some light on this... I sourced all those cabs for Orange - I wish I could remember the year (I can probably work it out if I do a little research) - anyways... Here's the story.

Years ago I worked a little with Joystick Junkies as an arcade technician for their event nights which were once a month/ sometimes more (probably a few of you own their t-shirts). They were approached by Orange one year for the festival season; for Reading (definitely) and Glastonbury (maybe... can't remember for sure). I had no idea the event was a music festival prior to sourcing them and they'd assured me the cabs would be well looked after - which was the only reason I remained involved.

At the festival the cabs were run from diesel generators in the mobile phone recharge tents as something to do while people waited for their phones to charge ... I had no idea at the time this was how they were going to be used, had they asked me I'd have at least suggested they put UPS in too to ensure the AC feed didn't fluctuate - myself and Mark Haysman fixed *many* PCBs for the events. Orange were too tight to have me onsite, and strangely confident that there wouldn't be any problems - they ended up couriering me boards as and when they broke (which obviously was pretty frequently given the way they powered them!)

I only heard about how they stuck vinyl over the sides and screwed in "Orange" CPs after the event - it made me feel sick to my stomach that I'd aided and abetted the destruction of 12 Asteroids and 12 SI cabs. I was told they'd been scrapped after the event else I'd probably have tried hunting them down myself. I remember that LL conversion well - I think I might have even bought it from Alpha1? Was going to keep it for myself!!!

Awesome to see these cabs are still in the land of the living. I've been feeling like a cab murderer for over a decade because of this! I'll sleep soundly tonight

Thanks for the info. That's really interesting and yet sad at the same time.

Unfortunately I had to destroy the SI cab I picked up. It had clearly been sat in the rain for a period of time, and large sections of the cabinet were rotten. Another sad end to one of those 12 SI cabs

Woa! I'm not sure how I missed your post Pob, but thanks for the interesting story.

I'm not sure you are to blame for the possible demise of the cabs though. These apart from one survived, it's possible the others may materialise one day.

Do you have the ORANGE sign? I work for EE (Orange) and would be cool to have it :p

We kept both Orange Asteroids marquees.  You'll have to ask Nad if he will give/sell you it.

If you work for Orange maybe you can find out what promotion or event this was for - the marketing department will surely remember it?

Ben I've agreed to send the marquee to Luke to hang at work. This way, he will be able to replay Pob's story of how Orange betrayed and murdered some classic cabs. The future was not bright for them.
