This is an expression of interest

I'm currently doing repos of the Atari cone button covers, as I needed a number for a few projects I'm working on, but as a side note wondered if anyone would be interested in purchasing.

These include plastic, aluminium, and possibility steel.

AtariCones.png

The plastic is of the smooth outer type as these can be done on the lathe and do not have the nubbins on the bottom that locate into the CP. For those I'd need to do an injection mould. Maybe down the line.
Aluminium is silver, but may look into doing coloured varieties for those that would like to customise their cabs a bit.

The steel will be blackened. I may stick to aluminium and just blacken those as would be easier than using more materials.

I would like to sell these at £3.50 for the for the plastic variety and £5.50 for the aluminium and steel versions, plus postage. May be able to do discount for larger orders.

I'm also looking into producing the actual button holders as well. I've got the microswitches sorted and currently working on the plastic holder and LED components. More details of this will be shared in the coming weeks.

Let me know what interest there is.
Please state if small or tall version, preferred material and quantity.
Also if you would like coloured aluminium covers, what colours you'd be interested in, apart from black.

Thanks
Phil

Quick update.

Okay, so only 2 people interested directly on here, and a couple of DMs.
A few others on different forums has expressed interest.

I'll do a short initial run of:
  • 125 short black plastic
  • 125 tall black plastic
  • 80 short silver aluminium
  • 80 short black aluminium
  • 80 tall black aluminium
  • 10 tall red aluminium ( special request )

This will be around 500 button cones in total so plenty to go around if anyone else is interested. Either message here or DM me.

I'll add these in the For Sale section once finished.

P.S. I've managed to 3D model the switch holders and wondering if I should just 3D resin print the switches in black, or get an injection mould made, £000's so needs volume to be feasible, If anyone has experience in this please let me know your thoughts.

Quick update.

I've ordered in the material, doing the black plastic and aluminium for now. Bought in the right threaded tap size, but had to modify the end on the lathe to ensure threads goes right down to the bottom. Yes you can get a bottom tap, o'er, but even that may not suffice.

Material should be here the next week, so will start on production after that and see how it goes.

Will update here when I've the first batch done and ready for shipping.

Update on the switches.
I've currently modelled the metal LED connector parts and getting quotes on the cost of a punch and die set in order to cut and bend them. I'm still looking at the actual red coloured plastic button insert. This has also been modelled but need to look at materials for it. Again, may offer in a few different colours. An example may be a Major Havoc machine with the light green roller. The player buttons could be done in green to match the roller colour rather than the current default red. Just saying :) .

It's great work you're doing here, as you seem a dab hand at reproing arcade parts would there any chance of you doing Atari logo joystick rebuild kits anytime in the future?.

I have at 2 of these joysticks that still require rebuilding and they are pretty much non-existent, unless someone knows otherwise. I think the repro parts are made machined from delrin rod (Polyoxymethylene)

I imported some of these kits from the US a number of years ago , made by MarkRL , the link to the KLOV sales thread is here:

They aren't cheap and work out close to £40 a set when you add up the costs plus post an duty etc from the US. but if you want a couple of kits I can likely dig them out, they aren't as comprehensive as the kit you have imaged but once fitted the joysticks feel like new as I rebuilt 8 when I was stupid enough to have both Gauntlet I and II cabs back to back.

These were actually the kits I saw a while back on KLOV, the pic I posted on here was just to give an idea of the white delrin components required. Would be interested in 2 kits if you have them going spare.

Hi, yeah that's on my list.

I've currently pulled apart an Atari Hall effect joystick, and looking at those, which is basically the same parts. Might use a self lubrication material which should help a little, but will have to test a few variations to see if they stand up to riggers of joystick abuse, lol.

Working on a number of repo parts. Have an Atari Missile Command trackball that will probably be next on the list. Would love to create bespoke balls for these. This should be quickly followed by the Hall effect joystick. If all goes well, I've a Major Havoc roller control on its way over and hopefully be with me in the next week or so.

I found them a few weeks ago when looking for something else so I know they are to hand, can do you a couple of kits, send me your addy by PM plus can send the OP a set when he's ready as a pattern so he can repro some more as it looks like no one is making them currently.

You will need some silicone grease as the Atari stuff has long since become NLA, I have some of the original Nyogel stuff but also a great equivalent, will find you the amazon link, using the wrong stuff can ruin the game play as its too sticky and can cause the players to go wandering off on their own especially with the leaf spring Logo sticks.

Do you ship to France ? :)

We are based in Northern Ireland, so shipping to Europe shouldn't be an issue. We have our export licenses for U.K. and Europe already in place.

If you're interested let me know quantity and type and can message you once they are ready to ship.

Out of curiosity I've got myself a couple of short lengths of white delrin rod.

Let's see what I can come up with over the weekend :)
