..Sega UK/STS have just had a big clearout of stock and have binned (yes binned!!) all of their NOS initialD artwork!!

A load of other stock that hadn't sold much in the last 6 years or so has also been culled, so heaven only knows what other treasures have been lost forever

I simply don't get this sort of thinking - if it's taking up space that you're going to need for stock to support newer games, why not offer it up to your contacts at discounted prices first to clear it? That way you'll surely make a few quid and not clog up the landfill sites with equipment that many of us in this hobby would treasure??

There's probably more of us collectors in this 'game' now than operators. People who will actually look after their cabs and buy new stock, rather than leave cabs to rot away in a corner unplayed because they won't replace a steering wheel or a coin mech.

I think Sega UK are seriously missing this point.

WTF Sega , actually we do a similar thing at my work and i think its crazy

I work for a car parts wholesaler and from time to time we will offer motor factors a stock cleanse deal where we will put in new current stock for there nos , when we get it back we bin it WTF , its all for older cars which im sure collectors would love , if you take it from the bin its classed as stealing so theres not much can be done about it , complete madness

Thrashin it means they can claim it on there Tax/accounting rebate purposes.

Also they won't sell it cheap to me, so I can make money from it.

Videos are pretty much dead, if you look at Sega amusements they are basically a reseller of redemption stuff for other companies.

Aye, it's a real shame, they must still make some money out videos though?

Hadn't thought of the tax angle, but I guess you're probably right. I don't fully understand the process but it sounds like the sort of thing a business would do.

It might make business sense, but it sure don't make common sense!

sh*te

I kept looking at the ID artwork and was thinking, I would like to buy some so I have spares, and I never got a new seat one that I needed anyway

Shame someone didn't buy it all and sell it on, even just a small markup to cover time etc. What a shame they won't even sell to someone that would take the lot and who cares if someone else puts in the time and sells it at abit of profit

I noticed that

Must be a real killer for the company, no console, no arcade video stuff much and they were world leaders when Hang-On, Space Harrier, OutRun, Thunderblade, Afterburner, Powerdrift released

I've never been wowed as much with any other machines like Sega, only the Ridge Racer machine with Shifter made me wanna play when it was out, but all others have been sega that really stunned you how amazing the graphics were at the time and how nice the machines are made

Ridge Racer cab I don't like, cheap pedals, steering compared to sega cabs

everyone should send enquiry about ID artwork and some other older machines within a month, they will be cheesed off after just throwing it all out

They have 1 big skip with a ladder on the side outside at the back, the industrial estate has security on site gated with a barrier as you enter.

I sometimes delivery paper to a old former client of theirs on the same industrial estate the guys who used to do the art for the cabs Service Graphics.

I asked them if it was still in a skip in their car park collecting water and told them I'd be happy to save what I could but the guy I spoke to, although apologetic, avoided the issue of saving anything.

I looked on Google Maps and noticed the gated entrance. I would seriously have hired a van and gone for it!

I found out about the cull when I enquired about prices for something else and was asked if I wanted to see the list of stuff that was going to be 'moved on'. I immediately said yes but the guy stalled and then told me it was too late.

I was told someone was offered the stuff but they only wanted a few bits. STS said it wasn't worth their time to sort it so it was all or nothing. Again, bizarre. It's like they wanted to bin it all..
