Does anyone here have any idea on the average cost of having a new boiler put in is.

I am hopeful its just a case of taking the old old old one (Potterton 50el) out and putting a new one in.

Had a new 3 way valve and pump already installed.

Has to be a new, decent reliable, good make boiler. I'll probably stick with a normal convential one rather than combi.

So cost of a new boiler and its installation (including labour, VAT)

Cheers

Sorry to hear about your boiler troubles.

I have a similar boiler to you (Suprima 60) and had 3 corgi/gas registered engineers tell me it was dead and it needed replacing (kept shutting down to flashing red light). Ended up pulling the PCB out of it, repairing the PCB (cost approx £20) and 2 years later still going strong (for a 20 year old boiler). Cancelled my boiler repair contract at the same time as had enough of people telling me 'there is no way to fix it'

id say ur location means $$ compared to the north west
depends on the boiler make tbh (like buying a car)

Worcester is my chosen fav!

get it done as a back hander will save VAT

every plumber/heating engineer does cash jobs!

The one I have is totally F**ked, it was pretty darn old and where it had been failing, the flame inside had been burning a hole, water then was dripping out of that into the flame, basically it was a death trap and about to start spewing carbon dioxide. So a new one is certainly needed. Cash in hand, means I need to have cash in the first place......and I don't :( A few people have said buy a boiler myself off ebay, but they weigh a ton, I would hate to pay out loads and something to arrive that's either wrong or faulty. One of those things I would rather leave to the professionals.

Second hand gas appliances will often not be fitted or certified by a gas safe engineer
i wont fit them as they need new seals/flue/gaskets etc

its never worth the risk fitting gas apliances yourself

leave it to the professionals

Aye that's my philosophy on it too, somethings in life you just gotta pay out for and safety is paramount :)

I had a wocester fitted 2 years ago, new tank, valve thermostat and 1 rad moving and it cost me £2700 cash. Sold my attack from Mars pin to pay for it.
I guess a good boiler will cost around £700 to £1000 then best to flush the system with a chemical, only £20 bottle just their time to do it.
I would say you will get it done for under £1500.

Hope that sort of helps.

I know you said you wanted to go new but I have a second hand boiler you can have for nothing. We had a new central heating system put in before Christmas and couldn't use the old one as it wasn't powerful enough. I say old though, but it was fitted by the previous house owners by British gas and was only around 18 months old. It was in perfect working order. I think it's a glow worm?
Might be an option...

I'd never fit a second hand boiler mate, be like wearing someone else's skiddy pants.
A good cheap boiler is the heatline Monza 28kw, I've personally fitted 6 of these in the last 3 years and never had a callback

.

Sounds like you might need a system boiler though

Here is a blurry picture of the current knackered one, my battery ran out whilst taking it.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/59660509@N06/12589781695

Its in the kitchen, next to the window.

Valve, Pump are upstairs in the airing cupboard with a copper tank. Then up in the loft are 2 water tanks.

Hopefully its a case of taking just the boiler out and putting a new one in compatiable with the new grounfos pump and Honeywell valve (put in at xmas). The radiators can remain as they are.

Cheers for your advice/help folks.

I got a new boiler fitted yesterday, and it was quite an change as I went from 20 year old Baxi Bermuda back boiler with storage tanks to a nice new combi Vailant. I went for one of a higher rating than I needed to get because I like a good powerful shower, and the power shower I had beforehand coming from storage tanks was very good, so didnt want anything crap. I also got a wireless thermostat and some new rads.
It freed up a lot of space from where the old hot and cold tanks were, but the difference to the bills has been tremendous. I would say we are now using between 30-40% less gas than we were (you can see this in the british gas "compare your usage" screens), so It will probably pay for itself within about 4 years. It also has a 7 year warranty which gives me some confidence in its reliability I guess.

A Vaillant install will be 2k + I'd imagine mate, using your old gear with a heat only boiler of decent make(Ideal Logics are a good boiler and have a 7 year warranty too) you should be able to get it done for about £1500.

Anyone got any opinions on Intergas / Atmos boilers? I was looking at them due to the fact they can accept preheated water for example from solar
