Can someone explain vertical control panels to me

Im confused

can some one explain to me how to use vertical control panels

namely cocktails that have the joystick and buttons on the side to they are stick out in from of you instead of on the top

I just cant figure it out

for me the way im thinking in my head its just makes my hands feel awkward and painful

yes that's true

one of my main ones I was looking at was the Space Invaders Cocktail and the joystick seems suss enough at LEFT and RIGHT but pressing the fire button would mean bending my wrist upward to flatten my hand which is painful

hence the thread asking how do you guys do it

I guess it is simply more awkward. But if you're playing on a cocktail, your less likely to be mega serious. More of a novelty or have a quick game mentality.

cause im rubbish at arcades for me that makes sense

but I've known people to play for hours

on a normal cab that gives wrist pain

it must be awful on a cocktail then

They are very unergonimic and uncomfortable, thats all you need to understand!

But I guess for a punter on 1 10p bitd im sure they were fine.

Comfort greatly increased by number of beers consumed. They were prolific in pubs in the very early 80's / late 70's and originally for games with two way sticks and 1 button. Actually, at the time, perfectly OK and a very sociable experience.

agree Definitely ok for 2 way one button games played many a game of invaders and moon cresta on one and Williams cocktails got layouts better quite comfortable to play other than head position.

The japanese cocktails are much better, they had their control panels flat to the machine.
