Hi,

I recently got this cabinet and I've been told it's coming from the UK, so I come to you asking for any info you have regarding it's model, how common/rare it is, and anything else you can share really.

I live in south america so the cab is quite rare around this parts.

I’ve never seen one before, so I don’t think it’s common. Electrocoin in the UK did cabinets for Capcom for tournaments in the UK, there’s a chance this is one of them with that SSF2 sticker on it. I know Julian who used to own the J+ forum had a Capcom tournament cab different to this that now resides at one of the Arcade Club sites.

My immediate thought was "That looks Italian".

Did a quick search on ebay.it and found a very similar cabinet by Baldazzi Styl Art, who still make slot machines. The joysticks and buttons are very similar, they're what screamed out ITALIAN to me. But it's definitely not an Electrocoin cabinet.

This cab is similar but not identical, but the control panel looks pretty much the same. The general design seems similar. So can't be 100% sure but that would be my best guess as to its origin.

You are spot on. It indeed seems to be Italian, this are the sticks it uses, Edierre sticks

Another interesting note is that originally it comes with a harness for a third player, and the metal cpo has the wholes and mounts for the additional controls. Mine still has the harness, pretty cool. vholf2020-04-02 01:02:42

Bear in mind that they won't be the original joysticks and buttons.

It will have originally been used to showcase the new Q sound system and will have probably been running either of the two 3 player games cadillacs and dinosaurs or Warriors of fate.

I'll post up a couple of pics later when I get chance.

Capcom must've asked local cabinet manufacturers to build them some special cabs exclusively for QSound. I remember when the Electrocoin ones appeared, was not long after SSF2 came out, which our local arcade first put in a Brent Supreme then moved it to the new Electrocoin cab when that turned up a few months later. I never saw the Electrocoin with a more than 2 player setup but it looks like they certainly made the control panel big enough for up to 3/4 players!

Heart of Gaming has some of these Electrocoin Qsounds and they're the only ones I've seen in years. I'd love a couple myself but make do with converted Golden Tee cabinets instead!

Here's a pic of one with the 3 player cp that looks very similar to yours (if you can picture it without that giant cp) and different coin mech position. This one will have been made in Japan but yours could have been made by Electrocoin?

Electrocoin made a few variations,. Here's a couple of pics of one of the cabs that was mentioned above. I have seen them called "Q sound" "Playzass" "Tournament cab" "Capcom utility cab"

I do have a couple more pics of different versions somewhere but not found them yet.

Does it have any manufactures stickers on the back?_Matt_2020-04-02 21:24:03

Some interesting pics in that SF2 turbo album. Jaleco pony 40 rear projection cabs in the wild! I never saw any of those myself.

I found a bunch more pics of that other Electrocoin Capcom cab, it looks like it shares some design styling with the Electrocoin Neo Geo cabs of the same time.

Found those pics on a recent sale that was either on here or eBay, I can't remember. I love hunting for pictures of obscure cabs though and I do always try to save pics of interesting cabs if I ever come across them.

Found another pic of the actual Qsound cabinet in question though too, Pic was found on an Italian site so I still believe its an Italian cabinet variant myself.

And that PLAYZASS (lol) cabinet was a Japan made cab I think, loads did get exported though.

I have one of these cabs. My initial gut feeling is it's by Electrocoin, but I could certainly be wrong. Unfortunately, there are no stickers on the thing.

The Edierre brand joysticks and buttons are certainly original to it. The metal panel underneath has no mounting pegs at all. The Edierre brand joysticks have a screw around the base, so you screw them in (just like buttons). I don't know of any other brand that is like that.

The monitor is a Hantarex Polo and the PSU is a Hantarex US150. Inside there is the lovely QSound amplifier and the Kitamura transformer for it.

Does anyone know which companies made cabs in Italy back in the day? I can only think of Zaccaria.

EDIT: oops, I completely missed the post by Lardonate

I've never seen anything like those Edierre joysticks before! I've seen them on cabs but never knew they screwed in like buttons. Guess they were designed to make it easy to add sticks to old really old cabs that were button only! I think Italy was also the origin of those odd 3-in-1 segmented arcade buttons too, so they just loved cramming more in without having to cut extra holes!!

Interesting teardown of an Edierre stick, guy says they had a problem that they would rotate over time so the directions wouldn't be what they were supposed to be! Probably not ideal for a streetfighter cab!(Looks like they had to fix it by bodging and gluing them.)

Mine do not rotate and I've been playing a lot of cps2 vs games, but the sticks are not very good truth be told, I find it hard to hit diagonals (jumping forward or backwards) even after replacing all switches with good quality ones.

Here's another cab which appears to be a variant on the SSFII tourney model.

I'm actually after one of these as I'd like to use it in an project I'm interested in.

Out of curiosity. Does anyone know the dimensions of the 'Unigame' cabinets shown in the photos posted by Lardonate?

This would be my second choice if I can't find a grey cab like the one in the photo I posted.

Cheers

The company that produced these cabs is Elmac, located in Italy. Just got one and is trying to hook up the qsound (wiring now is somewhat of a mess). I emailed Elmac for some wiring diagrams. They kind of confirmed that it was their design. But instead of a nice schematic they send me a jpeg with the Jamma-pinout :D
