Not sure if this is a known fix but thought I'd post it anyway as someone might find it useful.
The opto board A035220 used on Atari trackballs/steering wheels has a curved double opto that doesn't appear to have a replacement part (at least I couldn't find one). However, you can use two H22A1 optos installed in the same holes as the original curved opto and there's still enough of a gap for the wheel to spin.
