Has anyone got any options for cleaning rusty screws?

I was looking at a tumbler type system. Does anyone have experience of these, and any recommendations?

use a dremel with a wire brush attachment and carefully clean the screws they will come out nice and shiny

depending on colour you can then spray them black or silver with spray paint

EDIT: almost forgot, another magic serum for rust removal without the effort if APPLE CIDER VINIGAR. soak for 24 hours and wipe (Brush) with aa toothbrushsilverfox07862014-03-09 20:15:32

My old man has one of the tumblers (he used to do metal detecting years ago and used the tumbler to slowly polish up bits and bobs he found) tbh when I first ever saw it I had no friggin idea what the hell it was

But they are supposed to be a good piece of kit Ben,not sure how expensive they are but got to be worth if if they do the job

Jewellers use them on delicate objects so I see no problems with screws etc...

Pretty sure Alpha1 swears by these.

Ah yes, I remember now that someone had one. I think it was Alpha1

Hopefully he will comment with his experiences of this and maybe a recommended model

Great thread
It was just the job I was doing tonight but got bored of cleaning them with the dremel , it's so boring and I've got loads to do.
I need lots cleaned for my cocktail cabs so at one point I was thinking of just getting new screws .

I use one of these. If you have space in your Garage/Shed I can't recommend it enough. Using the wire wheel it takes 10 seconds to clean screws/bolts even marquee rails etc

I always try and replace screws where possible, but sometimes replacements are just too difficult to find.

Try some coca cola overnight.

Along similar lines, molasses and water mixed (I forget the proportions) will take rust off. I tried it once just out of curiosity and it worked well.

Definitely worth a try for small items which can easily be submerged.

Ok guys, so some of you use a dremel to clean up screws and metal. Which accessories do you use for this? Mainly the steel brushes? Do you use the felt wheels with some polishing compound?

I popped four rusty leg levellers in to some apple cider vinegar last night. I'll post pics later along with my thoughts on the results
