Components of Arcade Cab

Hey Guys,

I'm afraid I'm not that knowledgeable when it comes to Arcade Tech but I would just like some conformation on what the main parts of an arcade cabinet are.

I'm asking this because I want to pick up a Dead or Alive Jamma board and in the future I want to install it into an Astro City or a similar Candy Cab.

It will be a while before I get the Cabinet so I was just planning on building a small box for the components.

I assume I will just need the PSU, a monitor, the Jamma cable thing, and of course the game itself, is this correct?

I'd also like to know if its possible to have a component output?

DEAD OR ALIVE MODEL 2 BOARD is not standard JAMMA

YOU NEED...

Model 2 boards are a bit sketchy also, and often need video board replacements which can cost same as a stack.

There is many different versions also, so model 2 comes in CRX A,B,C as well as simple MODEL 2 with no letters.

I believe DOA is Model2ACRX

Same as a lot of popular games like VF2, Sega Rally, VC2

If its joystick game (which it is) I advise building/buying a pc that plugs in Jamma for this game, and run model 2 emulator, then you will have reliability and all the other fighting games - fighting vipers, last bronx etc.

You could run component also, but you will need to ask the people selling the jamma pc's

Regarding cab, also note games come in low, medium,high resolution.

This game is a medium res game, so will require medium res monitor. Astro City should have dual low/medium resolution, but watch out in case it has been replaced.

For the price of a decent supergun and CRT you could buy a jamma cab.

There's plenty of good Jamma fighting games out there that don't need adaptors/medium res monitors etc.

Um.. not quite sure there. Depends if a 'decent' supergun is really needed I suppose.

I got a fiver supergun pcb from ebay, and used an old scart lead on it, together with a PC power supply that I repaired the wiring on. I combined this with a £12 plastic chinese 'diy arcade stick' housing, and some old 2nd hand buttons and joystick, wired up to an old neo-geo extension cable.

As I already had the 14" TV, that was free.

So my 'test' supergun setup isn't pretty to look at but is perfectly functional and didn't cost me more than around £40 I'd say. Admittedly took the 'hobbyist' method with my own soldering and fixes.. but it's fine.

Thanks for your help guys. I didn't think about the Resolution issues, would high be 625i50 or is this an HD resolution? I'm asking this because I was going to use a portable Panasonic CRT TV to start with, I believe this just accepts PAL.

The Jamma board I was looking at was the Dead Or Alive ++, its currently on sale on ebay, is this standard Jamma or will it also require the Model 2 CRX to Jamma adaptor?




And regarding making a Supergun, I've got a spare Bequiet 600W PSU at home, is it easy to do, are there any good tutorials that you guys recommend?
