Great great fun ,you couldn’t beat Reving the life out of it and banging it into gear for a wheelie
Your mate sounded like the ultimate guinea pig ..stuff like that happened to me a lot .you just had to laugh it off

He was Mr Accident Prone :LOL: if his arm wasn't in a sling or leg in plaster, something was wrong lol
Him and BMXing was a disaster
I remember coming off the back of the Honda having revved it a bit too much :ROFLMAO: was okay in those days, you bounced off the ground easier, luckily it was all fields but wasn't flat so it was good fun
Gotta thank Mr Honda for that, top guy he was

I really enjoy all these old pics, so thanks for sharing Bods! Pity we don't have more of them. These threads bring back a huge amount of nostalgia and for me the best type of thread as it brings the whole era into one as opposed to being just Arcade related. Although the Arcade part of it was fantastic, the other bits made it possible, like the Raleigh Chopper or BMX to get to the Arcade, the C64 at home and buying the Arcade conversions to play etc
If you had a C64 the chances were you probably had a Nintendo Game & Watch etc. Once you'd finished paying games, put on a Bruce Lee movie, followed by Bullseye with Jim Bowen and Tony Green with extra cool adverts. The damned adverts then were better than the trash TV we get now!

I'm a Celebrity, get me out of here!? They are still showing that after 23 years!

The news - somebody has been stabbed again, the economy sucks, Labour sucks, the Hotels are full of stinkers, another bloke has decided he wants to be a woman, There's a pandemic and we are all going to die, the Doctors are on strike, the NHS is in the shit, the Russians are going to nuke us, Trump is still talking about himself and I'm now pissed off and that was that!

Some of the toys you made yourself were the best ,giders (go karts with pram wheels )
Stilts out of paint tins
Wheel with spokes taken out and a wire coat hanger bent into shape to push it
Baked bean tins for phones lol
There were passed down from previous generations and stood the test of time

You got that right, the go-karts were great fun, those old pram wheels were perfect and stood the test of time surprisingly because they did get some serious abuse.

Another 70's thing that I found great fun was sledging. When we used to get those mega snow drifts, the snow we got back then was insane in the late 70's and early 80's. If you found the right slope, you were going to fly.

We used to get home soaked, with red, sore hands and absolutely freezing cold and loved every second. I'm so grateful to my parents for allowing us the best days.

Another thing that my Mum reminded me of earlier was -

My Dad had an old Mk 1 Range Rover, when it snowed he tied three ropes on the rear bumper, then myself and my two best mates used to get lie on our sledges, hang onto the rope and Dad used to drag us over the Salisbury plain.

Mum used to be lookout in the back just in case one of us went for a major tumble.

The Adverts were awesome to the ones now and 100% better than the programmes now, plus you watched 14 mins of programme with say Bulleseye, as he says back in 2 mins after ads didn't even have time for a piss and make a tea unless you were Billy Whizz lol now you have time for a dump, make some tea and toast and still be back before the woke programmes on again :ROFLMAO: I was bored at work one night, having been toilet, made a drink and then ads still on I timed it the next ones and it was like 6 mins of em

The whole 70s and 80s was just everything cool, I'm sure parents had enough worries with economy and strikes etc but as a kid I remember all the good stuff
The TV Shows were entertaining, Movies were fun and the music was cool, its great when you watch them and you see BMX's, Ghetto Blasters, Arcade Machines, Computers, Breakdancing etc

Something else I had as a kid, must have been 70's as I'd been downstairs and opened a present about early morning lol and it was a spinning wheel, it had handles each side attached to cords, you pulled each handle and it would spin around as the cord twisted it would go back the other way and I'm sure it made loads of noise which my parents didn't appreciate at 3/4am Christmas morning :LOL:

Another game that I had was ' Stop Boris ' (no, not Boris Johnson) from Corgi, I think form 1979?

It was this honking great spider that came towards you (on wheels) that you had to shoot between the eyes and it would go back a foot or so.





Not forgetting the Small Snooker table either of course!! Snooker was huge in the 70's 80's! Alex Higgins was always pissed! :ROFLMAO:

Sorry slightly off main topic but read on .

In the 1970s I was already a bit old for toys tho my interest in electro mechanical stuff had me trying to repair and eventually learn how to fix juke boxes and pinball machines.
I also used my workshop on the farm I managed to build mobile disco set ups with 3/4 way sound to light unit fronts I designed…. For local wannabe dj’s. My own too !
Boris the spider reminds me of a 60s song by The Who very catchy, and one I sometimes played ….

However 1976 I bought myself a brand new combined harvester ( for real tho that brings to mind another song ‘brand new key’) I got the number plates mid June so driving it in July before R reg came out in the August made me quite proud .” A NEW TOY “ … a Massey Ferguson. we had a new tractor most years back then too also but the harvester replaced our old 1964 Claas Matador.

Messing with all this stuff began my amusement career which began just part time… till 1985 when I decided amusement operating was making enough to buy a house on a mortgage ( where I still live now) Not sure I would go back to 70s but it was great at the time but needed about 30 hours in some days to get everything done and sleep as well!

I today looked up the reg no on Car Tax Check out of curiosity tho the Combine was sold on when my boss and I sold the 3 farms in 1985 AND ITS THERE on a SORN .. so is it still running 50 years later reg SMA 640 R … I wonder … here’s the wife taking over while I had my tea ! And me playing on my toy getting my Oats for the health food factory Mornflake Oats circa 1978

I love old photos taken on Kodak paper !!
We have several round 1980-82 of video games we had at the farm and friends and our kids played them in the evenings ( no coins required as they were acquisitions for our growing slot machine operations.

Not 70's as I was only a nipper late into that decade but 80's & I got one of these from a charity shop (for a fiver) last summer its the 2010ish re-release & works the same just uses less batteries but still 3xD so spent more on them the unit :D
I felt so proud walking down the street with it, BigTrak
Used to own one as a child & its now on display at home.

I knew that I recognised the name 'Bigtrak' from an earlier post on here but couldn't for the life of me remember what it was and forgot to Google it.

Now I don't have to, they were pretty advanced for the year! I didn't have one but my best mates Rob & Al did I think did.

The fact you still own it is amazing, what a great Toy to still own after so many years!

Thank you for sharing your story, you sound like a proper old school vintage grafter. The country needs more of you cool, older gents as there aren't that many left unfortunately. I'm pretty sure you have many interesting and hilarious stories to tell as my dear old Dad did. My Dad was into Agriculture also and I also enjoy the awesome machinery those guys use, especially the modern kit used today but the cost of some of that stuff is insane, like the New Holland Combines for example, ridiculous sums of money.

That's amazing that your old Massey Fergey is on SORN, you would have imagined it would have been scrapped many years ago.
