Cracked Neckboard

I bought a tube and chassis at the weekend for a cheap price, and the neckboard is pretty much broken in half.

The monitor neck *looks* ok, apart from a couple of scratches on the black plastic bit where the neck pins are, so I'm hoping the tube is ok, but the neckboard is in a bad state

What can I do? It's from a MTC9000. Replace the neckboard, but where do I get one from?

Try and repair the neckboard? Glue to together and bridge the broken tracks?

Don't even bother with this?

I've also noticed that the ceramic resistor is also broken on the chassis. Replaceable?

I will take a picture of it but expect a shocked reaction

do you have another working chasis to check the tube?,one of mine in a cab dosen't even have a plastic piece around the neckpins and still works fine, you could just try to source another neckcard(try gunblade?)

It can be done. You will need to sand paper back the traces that the crack has severed and then solder a single thick strand of solder to bridge the board.

I would have thought there would be a fair few spare chassis about that you might be able to get a replacement neck board from though which would be better....

The neck board ought to be perfectly repairable with some araldite (or something) to glue the parts together and then some decent shape wire to bridge all the tracks. I've heard of it done before, but I'd agree that it looks like a pin is missing in the tube to me so you might want to confirm you have the right number of pins left in the tube first

Duncan - no it wasn't that auction.

The monitor has 9 neck pins so that's ok. It does indeed look like a pin is missing but that's just the blank space around the pins.

I think I have a semi working chassis I can try this with just to confirm the tube is not screwed.

Any links to where I could get the ceramic resistor?

I would prefer to replace the neckboard, but I wasn't sure how easy it would be to get hold of another compatible one. I can't make this neckboard any worse so I'm willing to give it a try to fix it up.

Thanks for the advice.

The neck itself looks OK. You'll know if it's not. If air has got in there (because it has a hairline crack somewhere) then the usual orange glow will be really bright like a light bulb. Or if you're really lucky there'll be a bit of Terminator 2 arcing going on
