RE: [ukvac] Deco Cassette System
Usefull advice would be good :O)
Okay, it was 2am when I posted that, so I'll elaborate a bit now I'm awake!
Aside from the mame emulation progress there seems to be little up on the net
about them...
Scanned schematics are bloody awfull (original may be just as bad), so an
original manual would be a good start.
Not sure where to start with troubleshooting it. It appears to have board issues
as the tape counter quite happily gets to zero, but I then either get a blank
screen, or a few blips of garbage.
I've removed the three PCBs and resocketed and cleaned anything that was
removable, plus the edge connectors. A couple of the pins on the roms either
broke off in the process or are very dodgy, so I guess that's the first stop.
Then I noticed on the schematics an army of 24 4116's which are more than likely
going to spell trouble (thankfully I have plenty of spare as I shotgunned my
Joust with 4164 when I had it).
But after I've looked at all that, the first step is I need to know how I can
determine if the cassette really is loading alright or if it's just going
through the motions, then if the dongle is okay, and finally if the resin
blocked cpu is alive and kicking...
Also, there is 13v unregulated shown in the manual. Making a jamma loom so I can
troubleshoot on the bench would be a major bonus, so can I just bung 12v on the
13v unregulated? No idea what it's used for yet.
Now perhaps it's a bit more obvious why I was asking if anyone knew much about
them. Funnily enough, I'm finding this way more interesting than yer average
faulty game.
I like a challenge for the winter months, which is exactly what it's doing in
the garage in the first place :O)
