UKVAC are proud to announce that something very exciting will be coming to the site / forum soon...

Whilst it is certainly no secret, it is possible that many of you will not know that high score save kits are now available for real hardware that are capable of uploading their scores to a dedicated internet high score site. We've been testing a few of these amongst the staff here for a little while and while opinion is a little divided, in that some people are not keen on publishing bad scores (for example), I for one think this is the most awesome thing to have happened to classic games in an age

The kits can be bought from here: http://shop.arcadehighscores.com and are available for quite a few of the old classics. When you buy one of these kits you have the option of buying it with or without the upload feature. Further to that, the upload feature can be switched on or off within a setup screen in the game. Yes, you read that right, all of this is in the classic game itself. There is a main scoreboard on the site (which is technically the authors own arcade scoreboard) and you also get you own board.

MAJOR props go out to Jochen, Stefan and anyone else that was involved in the design, code and manufacture of these kits. I know it's something that's been talked about a lot over the years but it is great that someone has actually done it.

So hot on the heals of this, we at UKVAC have been in touch with the good people at arcadehighscores.com and are working on a number of areas to further this great idea. From our side of things, everything is very much early days yet but there is already a UKVAC board (with my very bad scores!):

http://www.arcadehighscores.com/ukvac

More will be announced from our side as it happens but if you would like to get involved as a tester then get in touch. You will need one of the kits for your game of choice and of course don't forget to order it with the upload facility.

GAME ON !

OK, something that I will address straight away because it has already come up!

NO, there are no plans to migrate scores from the existing high score forum into this. To better explain why, you need to take into account what these kits are vs. what the high score forum on the site is.

These kits are for real hardware only. So it goes without saying that they run in the original machines (or a Jamma cab if you wish) on real boards. The kits supersede the ROMs in the board which means we are all playing from a level playing field, the same ROM set. Further, each owner has their own private / public key pair. This means that the score is automatically authenticated on upload.

Compare that to our existing high score forum here where the scores can be from hardware, mame or anything else and already you can see that the two things are entirely different.

Hopefully that answers that question

lol @ Chris.

I just put an order in for a Centipede board. They look like a great product.

Looking forward to seeing people compete against each other.

I will be ordering a Gorf one.
Am I right in reading that the gorf one eliminates the need for the rom board?

I could be wrong.

Cheers and excited

So does the gorf one replace the rom board as I have a few sets with faulty roms?

I wasn't able to down load any manuals on the site.

If I get a decent connection in there I'll be able to do some streaming gameplay too. My language gets a bit fruity though
