Display RGB onto TV?

Does anyone have an example of how to make a scart to RGB cable for a cab?

I want to test my cab outside of the chassis onto a normal TV but i'm unsure on how to do it??

Any help appreciated.

I've done this several times with various boards. Most recently with a Pac-Man and Pole Position boards.

Rather than chopping up a scart lead I would advise to buy a scart socket from maplin that has pins to solder on to.

An ATX PSU can supply the 5v and 12v needed to get the scart tv to display in RGB mode and switch to av mode automically if you want it to do so.

I would search for Jamma to scart diagrams and then adjust your wiring according to the pinout from your game board.

For the Pac-Man board, I bought an edge connector with solder pins to wire it up permanatly, however for the Pole POsition I had some solid core wire that I soldered to the scart socket and pushed into the female rgb, sync and ground connector that went into my G07. It seemed to do the job ok.

You'll need a resistor to change the 5v down to between 1v-3v to switch the scart TV to RGB, however I have used the 3.3v straght from the ATX PSU and that seemed to work ok.

The tedious bit is wiring all of the ground connectors together on the back of the scart connector. Once thats done you need to wire up R,G,B, GND and Sync from the board.

Hope that helps

Very nice! Cool bit of kit, bit more than i want to spend though as i will only ever use it once for about 30 seconds. haha!

I was thinking more like a normal scart cable or something like that?

get a scart cable and cut one end off completely

the other end open teh scart shell and snip R G B and Sync wires off

solder inline to RGB 330 Ohm resistor and 1K to Sync

you can also solder a 180 resistor from pin 8 to pin 16 and attach that wire to +5 V

GND pins should be pin 4,5,9,13,14,17,18 and 21

now just connect the cut end RGBS to the jamma end and pin 8 to 5v

if you want 4:3 then seperate the resistor from pin 8 and solder it to a spare wire and give it 5v and pin 16 on its own give it 12v

Would this work...?

Cut the wires, add a clip to slot into my RGB block, game on? or is that way too easy...

Assuming those three cables are connected to r,g,b and the ground for each colour you will still need to connect sync and 3v to the scart connection on the tv. What board are you trying to hook up to scart?
