This is still using the old res switch scripts, I've been slowly reducing this to 2 vs the 16 ish scripts used in this image!

If anyone has found any bugs they want fixing or new features adding now is the time to let me know! I want to keep the image arcade only and not add console emulators, the cores will be there but not configured in the front end.

Here is the new v5.3 image, it has a couple of bug fixes in the service menu and the usb lag reduction config. I dialled down the overclock as I found it wouldn't boot on one of my 3B pis, you can edit the /boot/config.txt file to increase it. Check the overclock section, remove the hash at the start of the line to make the 3B+ settings active and add a hash to the 3B lines.

5.3 Download

I'm currently using PinHP, which works mostly fine, but many of the resolution settings are out. Does this image do a job at setting them correctly, or do you need to go in and adjust?

Ta!

Are you using a pi2jamma board or have you built your own DIY setup? This image is for the DIY jpac version only, I have ported this to the pi2jamma but that is available separately from their website. I'll be updating that image very soon for 3B+ and the resolution switcher on that image is pretty darn accurate, it only screws up if the resolution data in mame is wrong which it sometimes is ...

RE: bugs in the old version

Not sure it's a bug as such, but in there's no default set up for quitting back to the main menu from a game. I was able to set one up for MAME, but not for FBA for some reason. It's a minor inconvenience though, very grateful for what you've made

I was using the 'thingy' build on pi2jamma.

Sorry, that was my fault, that version went to Revival and had a very convoluted exit combo to stop people accidentally exiting a game, the new image above has P1 and P2 starts to exit and P1 start and P1B1 as insert coin, as per an ipac/jpac

Hey.
I'm trying to diagnose a fault with my pi2jamms setup. Not sure if it's monitor, adaptor, rPi or program issue. Does the HDMI out of the rPi output at 15khz because of a change in the program or is that done in the jpac?
Basically trying to plug an HDMI screen in to see if it rules out my monitor or not and reconfigure the settings.

I don't think this will work. The pi will be outputting in 15khz yes, even in the 800x600 interlaced high res screens. So unless your HDMI panel can detect those timings, it's unlikely to display an image.

First step would be to get another SD card, write the image to it without any modifications and try that first. You may find your issue isn't any of your hardware but a config that's not correct.

Thought so. Thanks for the info.
I plugged it into another Scart CRT TV (I use a Jamma to Scart adaptor) and after turning the brightness fully up I get an image.
It's very dull and no amount of adjusting the pots on the Jamma to Scart or maintenance settings of the TV will bring the brightness up.
Lost the bloody mini SD adaptor jobby to reload the program so I'm going to have to source one of those tomorrow also.

It was my monitor in the cab.

When I moved the rPi2Jamma board upstairs to my space Scart TV I didn't know that the jpac needs to be supplied through the Jamma connector. Doh!

Anyway, brought the TV downstairs, plugged in everything to the cab and it works fine. Just needed picture centering.

Tried again with the old TV and it turns on, is very blurry for about 3 minutes then shuts off. Probably needs a re-cap but I'll just find another Scart TV.

I haven't updated the software since the 1st edition. Should probably get onto that. Is there a part of the code that decides the output frequency to 15khz? Could this be changed easily enough to output at hdmi friendly settings?

It can be changed but unfortunately its not trivial, you can easily change the boot resolution but the emulation launcher scripts would override it. I can add that in as a feature in the next version, along with a low res menu option already requested by Vic

Odd, do you get a red light on your pi? I'll test it later on my setup but I followed the same process as I always do, maybe the upload was corrupted?
