I certainly couldn't give a reason not to get one (assuming you're not going to leave it on and do a max speed run down the M1 :D ).

Sadly the biggest twats around here are the folk on electric motorbikes tearing around at 40mph, knowing they're almost uncatchable :(.

I had a moped side swipe me on a dual carriageway. I was in the right lane minding my own business. Dashcam showed I did not veer out of my lane, and that I did not speed at any point down the road, and that the gap between me and the car in front was consistent (adaptive cruise control).....but despite this, the moped rider is contesting the accident and it is still ongoing. My insurance company told me I was very fortunate to have the dashcam footage as presumably the moped rider is saying I swerved into him, and in the abscence of any footage or witnesses, I would have had no chance, and if it went to court, courts tend to favour motorists on 2 wheels.
That dashcam has more than paid for itself, the moped rider has no chance of winning the claim, and my insurance company are standing by me on it.

Yeah bollox to the effort of calling out bad driving (also a bit of a fan of rural Italian driving, where it's up to YOU to see and accommodate everyone else's cockups) mine are strictly for sticking it to the man if there's an accident involving my cars.

THIS is exactly the reason to have one. Too many liars out there now, gaming the (broken) system.

I had one similar 20 years ago , I was indicating to turn right before a set of lights. I had my hand break on as lights were on green and cars were coming down so I could not turn. A biker tried to overtake us all to get through the green and swiped me. I had no way of proving it at all , We ended up going 50 / 50 on something I had no control over. He said I " Didn't check before turning right " well that was bollox as I had my hand break on ! I was obviously further to the right and he swerved in to miss the on coming and misjudged. Hard to explain but I was not at fault.

I have a web camera sat in a box for 5 or so years , I must fit it !

Dave.

I have one although it came with the car, thankfully i've never really had to use it.

I'm not about to upload videos of cyclists and other assorted twats committing minor infractions. Although some idiot in Z4 was weaving in and out of traffic like he owned the motorway yesterday..perhaps I should make an example of him!

Well I don't have one but if works van had one you would see a lot of videos of absolute morons when driving around Birmingham, what a nightmare that place is, you see it all around there, I just can't be bothered to have something else to remember to keep taking with me and charging but yeah sometimes it would be handy when morons just change lanes without indicating straight into the side of ya and then claim it's your fault yet the photo's i took I'm perfectly in my lane and he's partly over the white line  but it's works van so I don't care and they only have 3rd party insurance, my own cars I wouldn't drive around Birmingham unless I really had too

Nephew just driving now and he's got one, sent me a few videos of people driving wrong way down roads, can't stay in own lanes and golfs passing him on single carriageway at about 120

Don't alot of EV's have them built in, or is that sensors for something top of windscreen?

yeah, they have sensors for the windscreen and have parking cameras, but not dashcams

i can also confirm, i have driven many many miles over the years, and even compared to the maniacs in Italy, driving in Birmingham really is something else, may as well be in India with no road rules

Dashcams are essential in this day and age, especially in Bham.

our I.D Buzz has USB-C ports up by the rear view mirror, presumably for things like a dashcam. Or you and the Mrs’s name in neon.

Ah right, no idea on modern cars, I saw a new Polestar the other day, no back window and just Camera at top

This in Birmingham a few weeks ago, not even safe for police to drive there  heard of the Wild West but Birmingham's like the Raving Mad West. other morning I got cut up by another leaner that decides to go in the left lane when I'm already in it, no indicator so makes you wonder what sort of driver the instructor is, 2nd one that hasn't indicated in a couple of weeks so that will be more clowns on road soon

Cairo.
Forget all road rules, just grind to a halt at every junction in a big honking mass of cars. I even had the displeasure of watching a pedestrian being hit by a car at 70mph on a 4-lane highway (which they frequently leg it across)

few weeks ago on the A45 in Birmingham someone decided while in the 1st lane they wanted to go right instead just before lights, drove straight across all the lanes but didn't make it too the 4th turn right one as they hit the raised kerb sectioning that off further back, how I laughed :ROFLMAO: if only I had Dash Cam I thought

Is it me or is driving just no fun anymore ?? Worrying about the other idiots on the road , Bus lanes everywhere with cameras to rip you off when you make a mistake , Speed cameras that dont catch speeders and just catch the ones that are distracted for a second (Like me 33 in a 30 !) , Charges for driving on roads you pay your tax for !! Big brother watching your every move (Not just dash cams the cams they now have to see if you picking your nose whilst driving). Car cloning that must cause people so much shit. Need i go on ?

Gone are the days when you used to be excited about going somewhere , Now we are just all anxious of it.

I loved it in the 90's when none of the above mattered !!

I am sad ,

Dave.

i love driving, i was a late starter(passed my test when i was about 30) and have driven all over the UK and europe, i always thought i didnt need a car because i could get where i needed to be but i think it all depends on the car you are driving also. My last car, which is sat outside my house, which i need to sell was a terrible drive, just a basic get from A to B vehicle(Focus 1l eco thing), previously had a Titanium X Mondeo which was fantastic to drive, and now have the Mustang which is also a great drive and extremely nice to just sit in.

The one big thing i have noticed very recently is that nobody seems to know how to drive on roundabouts, we have several by us and you need to be very careful due to idiots being in the wong lane or trying to skip queues by swerving into lanes they have no business being in, i dont know whether to blame the shit drivers or the council for allowing housing estates to pop up without the correct infrastructure in place, but that is an entirely different thread

No you’re not sad Dave, it’s true what you’re saying. There’s that many traffic lights these days you just can’t get going. It’s one of the reasons why I went to an EV as I got sick of changing gear every few seconds.

Where I live there’s a stretch of road which is about 4 miles say between roundabouts. Many years ago someone on FB put a vid up of travelling on that road and there wasn’t one traffic light at all. God knows how many there is now. If I was just passing my test now I wouldn’t bother taking it in a manual.

I still enjoy driving up here, just not city centres (for the reasons mentioned - it's a minefield of regularly changing bus lanes, box junctions, no entries).

I've worked out the safest techniques for each roundabouts as there certainly are some here where you're in danger of being swiped or t-boned. Probably doesn't help that modern cars are so much quicker than they were (although I'm not complaining too much, as that's the fun aspect too :D ).
