This is my favourite game to shoot for high scores on by far!

My top is 490k which I scored at a barcade last year and I'm still struggling away these days in the 200k - 300k range

Some day I will break my plateau.

Can you? I think you just did!

Not a bad score. Looks like you're at a point where suddenly your score is going to leap up by quite a bit. Which screen are most of your deaths coming on now?

Watched a bit of “King of Kong, a fistful of quarters” the other night. If you’ve never seen it well worth a watch. CharlieFar’s scores are up there!

Seems to be the ruddy pie factory or the rivets screen. I still haven’t mastered the elevators screen and the “turn back” on the wrong spring either.

All pretty standard then

.

The springs are always tricky but once you've got it, then it should be the one screen which you never die on as there are no random deaths once you can see the springs. I assume you run on a long bounce and then cross your fingers? What I do is wait for the long bounce then run but keep an eye on the next spring entering. You will get a feel from where it enters if it's going to be a long bounce or a short bounce and can then decide to turn around or carry on up. If you're using emulators then you can set a save state and just keep practicing until you have it mastered.

The pies and the rivets can be nasty and you can easily end up in a non avoidable death, especially on the rivets. Patience is key on these levels and especially so on the pie factory. If you can't get the easy free pass up the right side, then grab the bottom hammer. Don't be afraid to retreat back down to the very bottom if the fireballs aren't playing nice. Try to keep as far away from them as possible. If you can't get quickly up the right side, then it's much easier to go up the left if you've been hanging around as the fireballs move more speedily form left to right, so tend to gravitate towards the right side once they have reached the top.

That IS a great score, no bones!

I really need to get back to playing regularly... I think I've pretty much forgotten everything about how to play by now!

I know this is very trivial but I just achieved my 1st 100k game on mame. 113,500. Feel like the monkey is off my back (to use a pun that’s probably been used many times before!)

Yeh its a good score !! I av not plaid for many years but i never quiet reached the 100k think i got 98000 or something , very frustrating. I need to sort my machine and room out and get practicing again !

Well done,

Dave.

Cheers! It’s taken me a while & unsurprisingly it’s 3rd level springs that’ve been the main sticking point. I’ve been going for it on the long spring with fingers crossed but haven’t mastered the ‘run back’ yet. I’m amazed how folks get the really high scores though as random deaths on the barrel stages seem highly probable!
