The level of dedication and capability here is impressive! Loving the explanations even if a lot of it is over my head. Looking forward to seeing the final results.

The lower scan of Dirk is pretty poor so I decided to do a redraw of him which would allow me to fix the other issue of him being out of register with the background. Red circle.
example004.jpg
I now have him on a seperate layer and all of his solid fill colours are seperate too so i can tweak them easily.

Here he is redrawn and repositioned Vs the original. Quality and detail are much improved I think.

I will be adjusting contrast and colours at the end.

Extracted all the vines onto seperate adjustment layers with masks so I have more freedom to makes changes.example009.jpg
I have integrated the top and bottom panel carfully and with consideration to the original art as much as possible.
example008.jpg
I had added some green into the original top panel (right) in an attempt to get the two panels to feel connected . It isnt there in the new art scan so I have pulled some tan/ brown tones into the vines in the rework version, hopefully making them feel more connected to the top panel artwork (which is the driving force for all of this new work). Im really pleased with the new 'clarity' of the lower panel. The tan in the lower vines has been carefully added and the greeny/ gold highlights on the thorns from the dragons fire have been retained.
example010.jpg
A quick comparison of the DLF version that suffers from massive over saturation. I have colour corrected the sky in the lower panel to be aligned with the colour temp and saturation of the top panel. The overall saturation reflects the original art and is digitally correct to the scan, the battle will be to get the output to match (this isnt CMYK yet so things will likely change a little and ill be shouting at the computer).
example011.jpg
Quaterarcade version the the left, DLF version center, Rework and New Scan right.

And here is the full panel finished (before print setup).

Thanks. Think they used a lot of Roger Dean artwork back in the day. Definately touch base, have done a lot of CG over the years and a lot of games covers in the past.
Used to use Alias Wavefront Power Animator on SGI then MAYA, Mental Ray, Softimage, some Discreet Logic software (Flint. Flame, Combustion) now its mainly Photoshop and DaVinci Resolve...

Im stuck with 3ds max and mudbox lol
I use dirty corel draw.
Im flirting with the idea of remaking some old amiga games as i also do level and games design. Over 20 years now. Cryengine is my prefered engine but looks like ill need to focus on Unreal 5 or 6.

Quick update. Im pretty sure I have tracked down the correct overlay material but the current sample is too thick at 20MIL (.020''). I think the original was 15MIL (.015''). The texture is identical to both the original Marquee and CPO. Its the same material for both DL and Space Ace CPO and Marquee.

Its clear to see that 20MIL is too thick and 15MIL measures correctly when tested with digital calipers. Now waiting for a quote as this material is special run......

What is very clear to see is how the texture of the CPO effects the artwork printed below it, as I stated previously. This is exactly why scans from original CPOs still suffer from interference through the rough 'frosted' material.

Yep absolutely and all the scans are taken through that material that disrupts all the edge detail and colour rendering. In fact all the detail is disrupted through that textured surface.
Ahh that explains the wonky scans. I always thought it was just a sticker on the metal plates

You end up with a CMYC full colour halftone print process underneath a frosted textured lexan. Thats why I spent so much time cleaning the lower panel to match with the new scan of the upper. I now have a clean simulated halftone (for digital print) to apply to the back of this frosted CPO material.

I moved over from the LDV1000 laser playes (got 3 in storage for some reason) to Shaun Woods Laser Con system for Dexter. I have been talking to him about doing an add on as I have gone scene to scene in DL removing all animation so that the backgrounds can be fully enjoyed. All of the pan shots are now stitched together so you can see the majority of the artwork in full.
