EAG 2015 - The Amusement and leisure show
Happy new year to every one on UKVAC and I hope you all had a great christmas. I was lucky enough to get weekly access this week to EAG2015 at the London Excel. This happens to be one of London's biggest amusement shows of the year, held exclusively for those working in the amusement industry. the likes of Namco, Sega, Bandai, Electrocoin, Stern pinball, Jersey Jack Pinball and lots more were all present to show what they have on offer in the near future.
It was an arcade enthusiasts and gamers dream come true! I got to play loads of up and coming arcade games and pinball machines for free today, and there is some cool stuff waiting to be released to the public in the not to distant future.
Highlights for me were the NAMCO/BANDAI stand, playing Time Crisis 5 (stunning), Star Wars Battle Pod (Its really like being in the movie!), Aliens Armageddon ( Time Crisis on Steroids with huge recoiling machine guns! - a personal fave of the show for me), Jurassic Park (Similar to the Sega super scaller Pseudo 3d shooter from way back) in glorious 3D, Batman - a pretty cool driving/shooting game in a lovely cabinet, MarioKart Arcade GP DX (Could have been better IMO), Super Alpine Racer (Brilliant Fun) and this was just the Namco stand!
I found the Sega stand dissapointing as there were mostly redemption games and air hockey on display and only a few video games (The disappointing Transformers Shooter- Those guns are terrible on the cabinet and the game play limited IMO) and a couple of new racing games which did look cool but so unoriginal for a company like SEGA.
Expect to see lots of iOS games appearing in your arcade soon. I think this is where the video arcade industry is heading in this country, which is kind of a shame for us traditional gamers as we may be kissing good bye to traditional joystick controlled games! Good if you develop though, Still, may be fun if you like winning tickets for prizes! I think kids will love these type of games! And they do seem fun! Shame for the hardcore gamer though.
I could go on as I experienced everything the show had to offer. Was really great fun to play the latest Stern Pinball Games (WWE and the Walking Dead) and to play the brand new remake of Williams 1996 Medievil Madness Pinball game - was a very special moment for me! I want one! Jersey Jack Pinball was also present with their offerings, The Wizard of Oz and The Hobbit - Great games I must say! Lovingly put together!
A special mention goes out to Heighway Pinball (yes it is spelt that way!) the UKs first Pinball manufacturer! I wish them the best of luck with their new machine (which is similar to the Williams Pinball 2000 cabinet - interchangeable tables, with a small flat screen in the table). Their launch party for the game is this Friday somewhere in London!
Apart from all the latest Arcade games the show is chock full of the latest redemption games, slots, kiddie rides and more.
Of course being a show I took goodie bags and all the promotional stuff I could grab - Its on for one more day (15th January).
Heres a link to a short video I've put together of some of the show and me playing some games. Hope you enjoy my take on a classic video game tune I made for the video! Can you tell what game its from?
I will post some pictures up of the show when I get another spare moment.
All the best, Thanks for reading! Watching!
