Ah well, they all knew what they were voting for, right?

Not as funny, however, as gobby Brexiteer Roger Daltry moaning that Brexit has screwed over touring musicians. He wanted it. He got it.

This afects to UK sellers and EU buyers too. I know is it will be some workarraunds, but in my case I wont be buying from UK sellers in the near future. All of the carriers "have" to pass the shipments trough customs (to make extra money), and the fees are something like 25€ to 50€ per shipment plus VAT. This makes the price for small orders out of my reach. The only option is rely on the royal mail and pray to have luck and the post service forget to proces the shipment to customs.

Meanwhile your beloved EU is demanding covid vaccines be diverted from UK citizens to give to EU citizens.

Of course, they are so much more important than we are.

Oh I miss them so much..... NOT!

This doesn’t just affect EU sellers, it’s worldwide as the £15 exemption has now been scrapped (unless of course it’s a “gift” under £39).

Anyway, I got my first package today from China that was ordered and paid for after 1st Jan. I paid the VAT direct to AliExpress but there’s nothing on the packaging to say the VAT has been paid. How does Royal Mail know if the VAT has been pre-paid or not?

Switzerland is not a member of EU so that would be the same as before.

I made a trade with a member here, I sent a pcb the day after he posted one to me, I am still waiting for mine (16 days and counting) while he got his in 4 days....

I have had an interesting one

Paid £30 for something for my dreamcaston ebay before xmas and was supposed to be posted from UK.

It did but took like 4 weeks.

I assumed they ordered from china and then posted from uk. Was pissed it took so long as would of ordered from china myself, although there was only a couple of quid in it. I had tried to get the part of ali express but that turned out a nightmare too !

Gone to order the same part from ebay today they have hiked the priced to £47, said I paid 30 last time will they price match.

Said its VAT the price hike !

What Vat, this is from China or in a warehouse !! Nice money earner I think !

:(

they will be paying vat through ebay, but 20% of £30 is £6 = £36 not £47

Received an email from (gr)e(ed)bay last week. They will install a new payment. Buyer pays to ebay, ebay forwards the money to sellers bank account. Payment can be done with Paypal but seller needs a bank account, getting the money on my Paypal is not possible.

Worst thing is: fee for private sellers will rise from 10% to 11% + 0.35ct for each transaction....on the TOTAL including shipping. So Ebay 'earns' money from the shipping cost, too

And, they check messages between users and if they find out (or think so) seller and buyer decided to make the deal outside ebay, ebay charges the fee for 'connecting' the two users.....wtf?

I can still use the old system but it will change to mandatory in the future

Same in UK?

Time to finally move away from ebay...

I have had the ebay email and message today saying payments are changing and you will no longer do it via paypal. It makes a song and dance about you will no longer get paypal fee's which is a positive, but it does not say how much their fee's are. It sounds all too much like the global shipping system, with different prices/charges showing to the buyer and the seller, so ebay can levy some additional charges on the sly. I wonder if this will then open up fixed postage costs again as they seem to be heavily linking in with Royal Mail now.

Your payments are changing, are you ready?*

eBay now manages the end-to-end selling experience on our marketplace, including payments.
This means:

  • You get paid directly to your bank account, not your PayPal account, regardless of how the buyer chooses to pay.

  • We will initiate payouts within two business days of payment confirmation.

  • Your fees, expenses and charges will be automatically deducted.

  • No more PayPal payment processing fees or separate monthly fee payments.

  • Most sellers will pay the same or less than before.**

Why is the way I’m getting paid on eBay changing?
We are updating the payment experience on eBay to enhance the buying and selling experience on the marketplace. We believe this is an opportunity to deliver a more seamless experience for both buyers and sellers, while offering a greater choice in payment and payout options.

Is there anything I need to do right now?
Please update your account details, including adding your bank account information, by 30 April 2021. Once you update your details, you will automatically offer all payment methods to your buyers, and we will initiate payouts within two business days of payment confirmation, regardless of how your buyer chooses to pay. Learn more here.

    How are my fees changing?
Your eBay selling fees and expenses will be automatically deducted from your earnings before you get paid. The remainder of your earnings will go directly to your bank account, not your PayPal account. You’ll no longer have to pay PayPal payment processing fees and no more separate monthly fee payments. Examples of eBay selling fees include: insertion fees, listing upgrades and shop subscription fees.

*As it relates to funds settlement.

**Savings based on annual total sales volumes, and comparisons of (a) prior eBay final value fees plus typical 3rd party payment provider fees, with (b) updated eBay final value fees (without any 3rd party processing fees).

So, by the sounds of it, sellers on eBay are going to be worse off when these changes take effect.

eBay are saying they will initiate payments to your bank account within two business days. Getting paid by PayPal is instant, you can spend the funds on other purchases straight away. If I request a withdrawal to my bank account via PayPal the money is in my account within minutes, no waiting 2 days.

If wish eBay would also clarify their handling fees for the Import VAT too. I can’t seem to fathom how it’s calculated. I’ve got an item in my watch list that is Buy It Now at $11, with $11.24 import charges (yeah, more than the cost of the item!), then there’s the Global Shipping fees of $25.40 on top of that.

I’ve not sold anything on eBay for years now and I’m buying less on there nowadays. There’s other places now to buy and sell stuff, and cheaper too.

I think I am just going to sell as much as I can before April while paypal is still live. After that I am done with selling anything on there. Crazy thing is they encourage you to post thing as soon as you have the money, but if they are holding it for 2 days, then that will go against you too. Selling via collector groups on the socials seems to be the way going forward now (and on here of course).

Just tried to book a parcel going to Northern Ireland via parcel2go using UPS, but I get a message saying it can't be sent that way.

The only available options were via Hermes and Parcelforce.

I'm sure I've sent parcels via other services via Parcel2go, anyone know if this is a new thing or if it's been like that for a while?

Thanks.

DPD is your best option to Ireland at the mo. Customs is done digitally so their stuff clears quickly, most of the time before it actually leaves the UK.

Thanks guys.

Luckily the parcel is pretty small so I can send via Royal Mail recorded delivery.

Nearly shat myself when the cost for Parcelforce was quoting over 20 quid!

Do I use DPD website to book, or is there another broker I can do it with?

Hmm, just tried Parcelmonkey and it has more Parcelforce options.

Just tried DPD website and I got quoted £17.99 inc VAT for a parcel under 1KG!

I'm starting to think the system only wants people to buy from Amazon now, everything seems to be a mission nowadays.
