To be honest though, Jon I don't think you need the Pac cabaret now, so may I suggest you promptly sell it to me so that it will get some use because I'm sure you must be bored of that crappy game by now!

One thing I must do some research on is how Puckman came about, I thought it was a pacman clone but I just looked up on klov that it is a Namco game, is Puckman simply the Japanese name for Pacman or is there more to it?

Puckman is the original name, it was changed to Pac-Man to avoid 'graffiti' issues with people altering a letter.

This cab is by a Taiwanese company called Kenphone. It's one of the best looking cabs I've seen, I love it. I got all the Perspex reproduced on it which made sure a difference as the old stuff wasn't in very good shape, now it's vibrant and fresh.

The control panel had to be redrawn as there wasn't a repro available so if anyone needs it give me a shout, although I can't say I've ever seen another one of these!

Very nice! Tell the Missus you need a Pac-Land and the Bally/Midway one too....

Oh, and "EXCITING!" being the operative word!

Very cool! How does the PCB play compared to other versions of the game Jon?

Hi Phil,

It's the exact same roms by the look of things. I had a go yesterday and was point perfect to the 2nd Galaxian with identical observations to my cabaret.

It's not as nice to play as the leaf sprung cabaret though. Those joysticks are absolutely the best 4 way sticks ever created.

The only difference playing is that because the cabaret has a 13" monitor, the Puckman is like playing on a giant TV

I'll be doing some work on the Puckman cab.
All the steel will be powdercoated black and I'll have to have a new coin safe door manufactured.

The side art really needs re-doing, but as it's been reverse printed onto clear laminate, it's going to be a very difficult & expensive job. Saying that, if the side & front laminates were re-done, it would look absolutely gorgeous. The art is stunning on this cab

We'll see in the near future

As Olly mentioned, Puckman is actually the original game.

The ROMs are Puckman ROMs on the Midway board, confusing, but yes, the game is Puckman.

Everyone refers to the game as Pac-Man, as Bally Midway licensed the game rights from Namco and changed the character names as well as the game title.

In play testing on site, some Puckman games were indeed defaced to read something else

Pac-Man was taken to a trade show in February 1980, along with Midways latest 'hit' game Rally X.

The punters basically ignored Pac-Man in favour of Rally X initially.

They bought a shed load of Rally X cabs (along with some Pac Man cabs) and the rest is financial history. Pac Man went on to coin in over $2 billion for the operators in cash alone and the spin offs over the coming years brought in another $2.5 billion
