F355 Challenge Deluxe and small doors!

hey all,

I'm Ross and have a habit of taking on tasks which make other people shake their head in disbelief at my stupidity. Hope you dont mind my first post combined with a question/puzzle/challenge. This is my second venture into the world of arcade machines, I previously owned The Simpsons arcade machine but sold it eventually to a friend.

I fear this time I have been even less sensible as an opportunity to buy F355 Challenge came up, it's the 3 screen Deluxe cabinet. It's fully working but needs a good clean and a couple of minor trim fixes but otherwise is in great condition.

However as you all know this machine is HUGE and I intend to put it in a room which dimensions are barely the minimum size noted in the service manual, so it will fit. The manual say I'll need a minimum of 1.2m wide and 1.7m high. Height is no problem here but the room is in a fairly modern flat with a modern door of roughly 75mm wide.

Although the unit splits into 2 main pieces my plan was to transport it London Bridge style and re-assemble it in the room. There's a lift in the flat so the weight shouldn't be much of an issue if I can split it into small enough sections.

My plan was to take two side monitors off to move the front section and nearly completely dismantle the rear section.

Anyone tried anything as stupid as this before? Any advice would be much appreciated!

Good luck in your adventure.

I would remove all three monitors and disassemble the entire structure completely.

I would imagine you will also need a second room for the parts, as building it in a room barely big enough with the parts within it will be almost impossible.

Thanks guys, taking out all 3 monitors would aid with maneuvering too as I assume that is a significant part of the weight in the front section. I wanted to take it largely to pieces anyway just to clean it/recondition some bits.

I could reassemble some parts in another room as long as they don't get too big to go through the doors.

I'm in Edinburgh too actually!

I could have maybe offered more advice next week, just bought the same cab on Monday from bristolmartin2 on here, he may be along to offer advice & another guy on here Bods has one which iirc is in his house as well not a barn or garage, where mine is going the door is 38" wide so quite a decent size but Martin did say I will still have to do some stripping & rebuilding, tbh, I'm dreading it

Good luck to you too!

I'll share my experiences as I get to it, won't be for a few weeks as the place its going is being renovated, refloored and painted (perfect for dragging a 600Kg arcade machine through)

If so you need to keep him to his promise to get the monitor fixed and check out the Naomi motherboard/s in there.
Do you work for Rockstar games then?

Well it's a freakishly small world! I take it you know him then or you are just very intuitive? :)

He said he would get his engineer to make sure all was well when I got it set up but I was under the impression it was all working already! I've been communicating through my brother who did say something about a monitor being replaced.

I was talking to him about the machines in his arcade to see if he wanted to sell them, he was after

prices though TBH.

He told me about you(well I now know it's you) buying the F355. It looks in decent condition but the monitor was goosed, make sure the printer works too, there's a couple of guys on here with F355's so they will know more about the cab than me mate.

Mel seems ok, but at the end of the day he's an OP man, and £ is the main thing they worry about, be going over that cab with a fine toothcomb when your thinking about picking it up.

I think the printer is missing actually (did you notice if it was present when you saw it) I'll check out the monitor, he's a friend of a friend so I'm going a little bit on blind faith :)

Thanks man, kind offer. I'll show off my newbness by asking.... what is a Luton? :) Is it one of those lifting dolly things?

A big van with a tail lift

, they only lift 500kg though so I presume your going to have to split it and put it in the van in 2 sections, it should have wheels(again one of the guys with one should be able to confirm this) so rolling it about shouldn't be too bad.
