Yes demag demagnetising the screens - okay really need to do that if you’re having issues with the picture.

When the game is booting, but probably before the error you posted as that can hang the system, press test.

It will send you into test mode which has its own GUI and uses the test and service buttons - one to cycle the options and one to select. Have a poke around. You should familiarise yourself with all the options. Game settings can be used to set difficulty and there is a Grand Prix mode that switches the lap count to 16 for longer races.

Also set it to Free Play in the Coin Settings unless you want to use the coin mech.

The cabinet settings are in there. Set it to Single and then exit. It will reboot and if you’re lucky (really lucky) you will boot the game successfully.

As you’ve heard the speakers crackle and the wheel moved you could have a fully functional game - apart from one dead screen. As it’s not the middle one you will at least be able to have a go. Good luck.

It works!!! I forgot how pumped up the game gets you - especially in the full cab version. The intro graphics and music were rocking! Still have to figure out the right side screen issues. Ran the memory test and all came back good. Couldn’t figure out how to set to free play. The coin option would only go down to 1 coin 1 play. Anyone know how to set in free play mode? Also, how do you properly turn it off? I’ve been unplugging it but I worry that I’m potentially damaging something. Is there a proper way to shut it down?

Fantastic, really pleased for you. To set free play you need to keep cycling through the coin options. As you cycle they change the number of credits you get per coin. I think it’s about the 20th cycle that changes it to Free Play.
Turning it off at the plug is fine. There is no shutdown procedure.

Oh wow. real F355 Challenge as well how awesome, would of loved to own one, I did see one for sale probably 7/8 years back near me for £36,000 bet there crazy price now. once of my Favourite Ferrari's
Had to settle for Sega F355 Deluxe myself, Can't remember if I set mine on Freeplay or not but what ever it was, didn't work well, best option I've found is set for max I think 6 plays per coin, so mine is £1 and 6 credits, you can just drop another coin in if needed. also set the game for Grandprix Mode so you get full amount of Laps like Long Beach is 16 being a shorter track

Thanks for the advice. Bought my car about 10 years ago for a little more than that. Now are selling for about 4 times that amount. Here is what I did with my car shortly after I bought it:

Thats Cool man (y):D

Thought they'd be £100,000+ now, if you don't buy em at right time your priced out the market, unless your loaded obviously lol, friend got his Countach years back for 30k what they now, 300k and he dare not drive it half the time as something will probably break

At least you'll don't have to learn to drive the Sega cab all over, Ive only ever driven Right hand drive, using shifter on other side was a challenge in itself

Free play works fine, don’t bother with coins. You may not even have the mech wired up. You do lose the engine turnover sound each time a coin is accepted, but that’s a small price to pay for not messing about before you can play.

Regarding the dead screen, have you tried swapping over 2 of the VGA cables at the NAOMI end, that would confirm the NAOMI Is outputting the video signal. If the same screen remains dead then it’s not the NAOMI. Then I would look a swapping over the chassis for the CRT, obviously be very aware it will need to be safely discharged BEFORE removing the HV connection.

Shame you weren’t closer, I have a spare MS2932 chassis and NAOMI boards, would also love to try the deluxe machine.

Chris.

I couldn't get free play to work any good as far as I remember, sure you never got long playing it, will have to check it again altough i'm ok putting a pound in

If one board dies, you just get comms error so game won't start. One thing to check is the VGA is on Correct Video Output, Don't forget there are 4 but Audio one will have no picture

Found the free play option the other day and it works fine. The machine was set up to take tokens but this makes it easier. I will explore the dead screen next. A video online shows how the board that plugs into the back of the CRT may have jiggled loose in transport. On the video they just moved the board a little bit and the screen came back. But first I will check connections - power and inputs.

Was thinking about when I toured the garage of Jon Shirley - former president of Microsoft. He has some amazing cars - like a Ferrari 250 GTO and NART Daytona Spider. I remembered that he also had something cool sitting in the corner of his man cave. Take a look at the top left corner. Good enough for him it's good enough for me. Haha

Just got off my machine, need to change the Batteries as it lost all settings and my times, so just tried it on free play and worked ok, grandprix mode with 16 laps on long beach race it perfect, arcades here never have it on grandprix setting so no point playing it, how can you start in 8th and get to 1st in 3 laps

I replaced the crt in a dlx
I would have preferred not to
But I wanted to play the game and I wasn’t getting three working crts anytime soon.

Also I had to replace the three san ace
Naomi.

I do believe I read that they linked the dlx in japan ..

Like yours seems to have been in slave mode when you first got it ?

Also if you can use the dreamcasts vmu with a special lead you can save ghost times and then load them and race against the gohsts .. a cool way to play against freinds best times :)

When I had played it enough I sold it to a guy who put crt back in so it’s all back together with original crt now as it should be :)

Here is a vid of mine with lcd
