i smell utter bullshit, im guessing this 50m includes the prices for all of the roms because im not sure there is a storage facility in the world that could hold 50m worth of actual physical software

lazy lazy journalism that is very sensationalist and doesnt offer any facts at all other than "50m worth of retro games and consoles"

and in Italy....LOL

Back in the 80s as games got popular and pirate bootleg copies were produced ( tho some under licence legally) some Japanese manufacturers got very nasty chasing down the copyright pirates and often took steps to hide component identity to prevent reproduction while games were new and world market leaders .
I would imagine customs around the world maybe confiscated loads of fakes back then too ….. copyright infringement is taken as a serious crime with music and certain fashion designs and perfumes too
Take Gucci handbags as an example , say?

From the article:

Around 12,000 consoles holding over 47 million pirated video games were seized by police, Alessandro Langella, head of the economic crime unit for Turin's financial police, told the AFP news agency.

The haul had an estimated value of €47.5m, Mr Langella said, a figure which includes the value of the consoles and hundreds of licenses for the pirated programs.

And the cart shown in pic was SFII SFC with Balrog/Vega as a playable character (player 1). Not possible. Must have Turbo pcb/rom. Defo worth pirating a £2.50 game

Yes you can't do it in the standard world warrior version.

I found the action replay codes to enable playing as the bosses after many hours effort, but the sprites we all garbaged as a result.
Sent the action replay codes in to C & VG magazine , next issue they published the codes but attributed them to somebody else.

To be fair others could have done the same, but I always wondered if they pocketed the £20 reward and went down the pub.

£55.5 million divided by 12,000 consoles = £4,625 of estimated value per unit.
47 million pirated games divided by 12,000 consoles = 3917 games per console.
Pirated programs from China containing non-certified batteries and electrical circuits.

Lazy, Fake and Propaganda Journalism is what you'd expect from the BBC :ROFLMAO: just like when they promote all Current Agenga's

Years back there were many people selling Italian versions of original Big Trak toys, all NOS in boxes sealed and I thought then I wonder what's in them, could be cheap replica, could be anything and how many people are going to open a supposed retro/vintage NOS Sealed item  they could of been genuine but who knows

Big trak sells for naff all now anyway

These supposedly Top Quality British Made speakers (Made in China) were part of a scam, they were trying to sell them to people for like £800, I picked up a pair like this for nothing and put them on ebay years back but having found out the back story I couldn't sell them to anyone, I dropped one on the slabs and the woofer magnet fell off  they sounded crap anyway so smashed up and binned and still people asking silly money for the junk

I assume it's Pandora boxes and fake PS3 shaped minis they are talking about, usually about 5000 games a piece on them.

Probably bought in bulk on AliBaba and then selling then on.
